Is the water safe to drink in Ireland?
This probably seems like a very naive question, but we were wondering is the tap water ok in major cities or should we ask for bottled water?
Thank you, everyone for your responses. I thought that the drinking water was safe in Ireland....When I was talking about my plans with a coworker, she tried to dissuade me from water and I thought that meant it wasn't safe to drink.
Nikki- How nice of you to offer to check it out for me! I cannot send you on a recon mission the week before we leave.. it took me 3+ years to save for this vacation! I don't have penny to spare! :D

Most city water is filtered and should pose no problems.
It is in rural areas where you may be drinking well water that might be a problem. It is not that the water is inherently bad but it is different than what you are used to and the bacteria in your gut is not used to new bacteria so they may protest a bit.
If you are concerned you could ask for bottled water but if you are that worried the bottle should be presented to you with the cap closed and intact. (never know if someone will fill an empty bottle with tap water and charge you for bottled.)
I would not worry about drinking the water in Ireland but if you want to be sure I would be glad to go a week in advance just to check out the water for you. (you pay for the recon trip though)

The water in Ireland is perfectly safe. I've been there and drank whatever water they brought me without even thinking about whether it was bottled or not.

I never drink from any tap unless it's directly connected to a filter system. I would play it safe and ask for bottle water.

It must be since I haven't heard any widespread illnesses and deaths from Ireland that involved water.
