Atheists: Would you be interested in this website?
I know there are several atheists here that like to debate religious people. I wanted to let you know my church has made a website especially for atheists. I thought some "atheist regulars" that visit R&S might like it. It allows atheists to debate against church theologians, scholars, etc. It might help you strectch your "mental muscles", or if nothing else, you might find it interesting. The website is www.strangenotions.com. It's built around three things: reason, faith, and dialogue.
The name "Strange Notions" carries a double meaning. The first sense comes from a colorful story in the biblical book of Acts. In the book of Acts, we discover the Christian convert, Paul, sailing to Athens. There he debates in the synagogue with the Jews, then in the public square, and then finally is invited to the Areopagus, a prestigious hill where Athenian philosophers gathered "for nothing else but telling or hearing something new." (Sounds like the Internet, eh?) Paul stands among the circle of pagan philosophers and appeals to what they all hold in common—devotion to truth, philosophy, poetry. His message intrigues the Athenian elite, who say, "you bring some strange notions to our ears; we should like to know what these things mean" (Acts 17:20).
This website is designed to mimic that first meeting of Christians and atheists, allowing both to discover intriguing "strange notions" on either side.

Short answer - "Been there, done that"
I used to be a Christian up until about 15 years ago, and I was a member of a Christian online forum. When I started having doubts, I asked questions, debated dozens of people, spent literally hundreds of hours discussing theology, apologetics, philosophy, etc.
There is literally no subject regarding Christianity that I haven't debated many times.
It was the debates on that Christian forum that cemented my loss of faith and made me an atheist.
I wasn't a jerk, I was polite. I debated with Catholics (like your site) , Baptists, evangelicals,
fundamentalists that even the other Christians on the site didn't agree with, etc.
After a few years of this, I realized that all apologetics are circular or rely on "smoke and mirrors" techniques like ignoring one part of the Bible to support the claims of another part. Basically- it goes nowhere, no objective evidence is ever presented. The discussion of any concept starts with a vague premise or an unproven assertion, or the the proof of a concept is based on a premise that needs to be proven itself.
Not to mention as someone else pointed out- the fact that the existence of God can be debated is in and of itself an admission of the lack of objective evidence for that God. Once I realized this, I realized that debating the sub concepts were pointless as the premise for the whole thing canceled itself out.

---- No. I don't enjoy debate and dialectic. The nature of debate has been confused by most everyone since Socrates came in and confused the whole issue.
Also, I've never met a theist who engages in debate....they just have evangelizing from the podium instead of the pulpit (I'm looking at you Mr. Craig.).

Now, if an all-powerful, all-knowing, supremely intelligent being actually existed, why would there be a need for a website to debate it? LOL Everything you just wrote would be utterly unnecessary if gods actually existed.
Sure, would you be interested in my website where people can spend their days debating the existence of Harry Potter?

This is pointless, 99.9% of the atheists I have met called me delusional and claim there's no point in debating with delusional people.
Most atheists wish nothing but ill and hate upon Muslims, Christians, Jews, and Hindus.

No more interested than in debating a mafioso big guy.
No matter how you spin it, lying, stealing, and abusing kids is wrong, and the catholic church has made their name on same.
There is no debate if that is right or wrong, except in the eyes of the church.
Magic has been demonstrated not to be real.
Think about stuff before you post it..

This is an abuse of this site.
And, I hopped over, and looked around a bit, and no, not interested. Why would I be?
It's not really a discussion site, anyway.

One can't use logic against belief. Belief defies logic and one can't argue logic with someone who doesn't understand it.
Thank you for the kind invitation. I am already well-versed in strange notions, however I will check out the site.
