Illinois trailer laws?

I have to pull a trailer from Ky into Illinois pick up a load of seed and then go back on the same day to Ky. Ky requires no trailer license but Illinois does. Can I legally do this?

    I will assume the vehicle towing the trailer is registered in KY. If that is the case, I suspect that the rules would be similar to the rules for driving a car registered in a state that only issues rear plates in a state that requires front and rear plates. The rule for that is that as long as the vehicle has the proper registration for the state where it is registered, and is OPERATED in a manner that is legal where it is driven, it does not have to comply with local registration laws. Assuming I am correct, you should be fine towing the trailer with a KY registered vehicle.

    The above aside, if I were you, I would e-mail the question to the State Police or Highway Patrol of each state you will travel through, and keep a printout of the answer in the vehicle during the trip. At minimum, that proves you did your best to learn and comply with the relevant laws.

    Ignorance of the law is no excuse, but being given inaccurate information about what the law requires, by law enforecement, is often an effective defense.

    Not without a trailer license. Or you could just take the chance. A ticket for not having the license may be cheaper than getting one.

    no you cant the reason is if you are pulled over in illinois they will give you tickets

    the trailer should still be registered to KY so you should be ok
