Over the course of an average life-span, how many innocent animals were murdered, brutalized, tortured to sustain a single human diet ?
Can anyone do the math on this for me please ?
Really sickens me to read these responses and how blatantly ignorant and narrow-minded the logic is behind them. Did you know cows love hugs, just like dogs, they feel happy and sad, just like a dog or cat. There is actually no difference in principle between them but you continue to shovel their corpses into your hypocritical ignorant mouths when there's plenty of other foods that can sustain you just fine.
Disgusting.

Cattle: 35,507,500
Pigs: 116,558,900
Chickens: 9,075,261,000
Layer hens: 69,683,000
Broiler chickens: 9,005,578,000
Turkeys: 271,245,000
this is just in the US, devide that by 318,9 million, and then times by the average human lifespan (70 years). once you have done this for very animal, take the summ of all of them and you will have the nummber of animals that the avrage person in america kills in his life span.
THe answer is 4110 animals.

In the grand karmic scheme, any animal that ends up as food has made the choice to do so. The same is true of plants, which are also sentient.
_____
A 2000 calorie diet requires about 0.5 kg of food per day, so a lifetime of 27000 days will require about 13.5 metric tons of food.
Now, you can add the assumptions that 20% of that comes from meat, and that 40% of the gross animal weight is used. This gives you just under 7 metric tons of food animals. That would amount to about 14 cows or perhaps 4800 chickens or some number of pigs between these numbers.
The number of plants "brutalized" for food is far greater, as the yield is significantly smaller and the proportion of diet is larger.
_____
Considering the grand karmic scheme, it behooves each of us to respect and be thankful for the plants and animals that make up our food supply, and to waste as little as possible.
