It makes no difference if you agree with the five million spent or not, they will do it, and there's nothing you can do about it.

£5 million? That is what some footballers earn in much less than one year. Even more outrageous?

They don't have to justify it. It is a property that belongs to The Queen and since it was previously staff quarters, it needs to be modified, refurbished, redecorated and have security installed, to accommodate Prince Harry and his wife. I don't think it will cost £ 5 million just to move.

Source please. Don't tell me this is from the Daily Wail?? Harry and his brother are independently wealthy men, and the Queen has given Frogmore Cottage to Harry and Meghan in any case. Yes, the public purse pays for their security, which once moved into that property is probably going to be minimal, but THAT'S ALL.

Check out what the President and his family cost the AMERICAN people compared to what the British Monarchy costs the taxpayer here. I think you'll be shocked.

And where is the proof that this move will cost that much? Tabloids aren't really known for printing facts.

The cottage will have some work done, but it is only essential work to make the house up to safe standards. Meghan and Harry will have to pay for all other expenses---decorating, furniture, art work, carpeting are all not essential expenses for an historic building.

Tax payers get hundreds of millions of dollars paid to the British treasury from the monarchical holdings of the Crown Estate---something tabloids fail to report correctly. The Crown Estate and the Sovereign Grant are not tax payer funded as they wish to portray. Tax Payers fund royals' police protection. Tax payers fund some municipal works attached to historic buildings and some events.

I remember taking classes in High School where we learned about how the media can spin a story to fit whatever purpose they wished in order to draw gullible, ignorant people into their readership. All schools should teach this class in this day and age where spin is more important to amoral editors than facts.

It's disgraceful. It's time these parasites were abolished. That money should be spent on housing the homeless.

Seriously? Meghan is richer than most of the royals. She bought the new house, she is paying for the move. You really need to read more.

  • It costs taxpayers £40,000,000 per year to care for the family's expenses.

Of course, the taxpayers also make about £200,000,000 per year off of the money that is generated by properties that are owned by the royal family. That money goes to the State, because the state manages the lands. That's the bargain that was struck over 200 years ago. The state provides living expenses for the royal family and in return they get to keep all of the money that is produced by the property holdings of the royal family.

Then there's the nearly £7,000,000,000 that tourism brings in every year, most of which is produced at sites that are associated with the history of the UK's monarchy and peerage system. People don't want to visit castles that are more or less museums. They want to visit places where ancient noble families still live and thrive.

So, go ahead and get rid of the royal family's compensations. They'll just take back the profits from their lands, make more money from that than what they currently get, and the UK will lose its tourist industry. Or, just deal with the rare and momentary large expenses.

That is all wild speculation in the media at what their security is going to cost. The cost is picked up in the first instance by the Met Police, as it is for anyone entitled to protection by SO1. This goes to pay the wages of the offers assigned. Any improvements to the property will be paid for by the Queen.

The £300 million plus that the Queen pays to the Treasury each year will more than cover the costs of security.
