Anyone have a Charter Arms Off Duty or Undercover Lite? Undercoverette or Taurus?

I’m mostly a semi auto shooter now (but grew up shooting SAA 45s) but have recently become interested in the concept of a “pocket revolver” as a BUG. Not meant to replace a primary. Not many options out there. A light weight sub J Frame size 32 mag would be perfect, but seems there is nothing in that niche. Not really interested in going to NAA Minnie’s.

Anyways just wondering about the felt recoil (yeah I know that’s subjective) on the undercover lite or the off duty. A 38 Sp +p in a 12 ounce frame seems ultra punishing. Maybe changing out the grips might help. Is this a terrible snubby? Is the 16 ounce undercover better despite being heavier to pocket? I imagine sticking entirely with regular non+p 38 ammo for this weight level.

I’ve also been looking at their Undercoverette but their 12 ounce version only comes in feminine colors so no thanks. Also looked at Taurus M380 which seems to be the only one that is slightly smaller than standard J Frames, is 15 ounces, but fires 380acp. Not a fan of needing moon clips but do like that availability and options of ammo is far greater than 32 magnum. Either caliber seem better options than 38 so +p for a light weight snubby especially since not meant to be a primary carry.

How bad is the recoil in these models verses say an M&P shield 9 or Sig 226 or 1911?

I have a S&W 442 PD with a titanium cylinder and an aluminum frame, I would say it is manageable but not really pleasant to shoot.

I had the opportunity to shoot the .357 mag version, and decided after three rounds to hand it back and say no thanks,

Rifleman had a road test of a new lightweight Taurus that intrigued me a little because it features six rounds. I am ambivalent towards another Taurus as I have two and both have minor defects I failed to notice at the time of purchase.

I use a S&W 36 Chief special as my pocket revolver but having such a short barrel I can only hit the figure 11 target at about 20 feet

Look at a Bersa Thunder 380 CC. Although it's not a "pocket pistol" it still fits into the pocket on my Wrangler jeans. However I usually carry it in a Pyntek kydex iwb holster. To me its the perfect summer time carry where I live on the hot, humid Gulf Coast. 8 round mag, excellent da/sa out of the box.

Some turn their nose up at Bersa and 380- let them snort- its their loss.

Speer gold Dot makes a 90 gr round that opens well going through 4 layers of material and penetrates about 10". Remington makes a 88 gr HTP that penetrates 12-18" depending on how many layers of material and how well it opens.

Nothing wrong with 9mm, 45 and so on....but at my stage in life....I prefer something a little lighter and easier on the tote.
