I'm not vegan, but vego. It is actually quite natural to lose weight on such diets if you minimize all fats and simple sugars. Fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals are actually quite filling, and as long as they don't get swamped with greasy, salty sugary stuff they are also low calorie. It has never been easy for me to lose weight. I've never been fat but I tend to gain weight slowly and surely. Usually, in the summertime, I lose the weight I gained all year long. With longer days and nice weather, I'm more active. With hotter weather i tend to eat less.
I actually gained weight when I first became vegan.
Last summer I started the "Eat To Live" diet. It's a whole foods plant based diet.
It doesn't necessarily exclude meat and dairy but it does minimize it. and i just avoid meat and dairy anyway. The main change for me is the elimination or reduction of oil.
The other thing i had to do is to eat a lot of vegetables and less grains. When i stick to that diet I can lose a pound a week. And I'm never hungry.
On a typical day I would eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. A big salad for lunch and stir fry veggies for dinner. .
