With the virus going around is it safe to order stuff online?

Did you order something that will cough or sneeze when you open it?

I hate to repeat an answer I made to a nearly identical question, but..."The virus can survive for a short period of time on surfaces like on doorknobs or faucet handles, which are some of the major mediums of transmission, but for not more than a few hours so the chance of catching anything off of a product shipped from China is non-existent."

and that virus does NOT live on inanimate objects for days to weeks

I certainly would not go ordering items from a foreign country right now you can get electronics on eBay that come from foreign countries let's be careful let's not import the virus inside boxes of mail. Do you really want to save $100 on a cell phone just to turn around and get so sick that you can't use it or to make everybody around you sick. There's always that chance that a box from China could have some virus in it that actually survived.

It's most unlikely that you could catch a virus off something you receive in the post.  Viruses tend to be spread through physical contact, so it's vaguely possible that the goods or packaging has been touched by someone with a virus, and you've transferred it to your mouth or to your bloodstream through a cut in your hand.  That's always been the case. If you're really concerned wipe the packaging and the goods with a cloth soaked in disinfectant and wash your hands well afterwards.

That is an excellent question. I doubt there is an answer to it though because online orders originate and get handled by a myriad of sources and a myriad of handlers and logistics devices (e.g., airplane, truck).

But I do know this. On the news yesterday a rep of the CDC (Center for Disease Control) said for Americans to not change our routines because of the virus. In other words, while there is a threat, it's not so great that we should stop doing things the way we normally do them.

And I would assume that means among all the other things you do to keep ordering things online the way you always do. Don't hold off.

That's a good question considering the fact that most things are made in china and shipped from china.
