Something is wrong with the Following / Unfollowing questions. When you follow it and then unfollow it you still get the notifications even though the star goes away.
The only way to stop the notifications is by going to Notifications and click Customize Feed and uncheck the When a question you follow Has a new answer and / or Has a best answer chosen. Be sure to click Apply.
