How can I save money when grocery shopping?

Start by making a list of staple goods you buy often. Then go to the stores in your area and do a survey of the prices. For example, where I live a Walmart grocery store regular price may be cheaper than the best sale prices of other stores on can goods. You may find you need two stores to get the best prices on your total bill. Then, shop the sales, use coupons, and buy as little pre-prepped food as possible since pre-prepped is always more expensive than doing it yourself.

Make a list and stick with that.  No tempting items should be added to your basket.

Look in the clearance section, check dates / freshness of product. Buy what you'll use

in a reasonable amount of time unless a great deal (Like when I recently got Snickers

bars for a quarter, normally 1.50) If something available "store brand" and "national",

try store-brand. It's usually the same product but much cheaper, also accompanied by

a satisfaction guarantee with receipt. Also look into going to a food pantry if qualifying.

Buy items when they are on sale, buy store brand products, buy in bulk, and use coupons.

Look at the various supermarket sales flyers before you go shopping, so that you can plan out what you will pick up that is on sale.
