Utility bill estimate?
We're buying a 2100 sf home, Hudson Valley Ny. All electric heat pump and central air. Any ROUGH idea of monthly utilities. New construction, well insulated.

You expect us to do that? You must be nuts. Don't you think the previous homeowners would be the best people to ask?

When I bought my home, I tried to look up the same thing and got so many numbers! They were all based off a family of four, not a married couple. I asked my realtor this to see if she knew, and she suggested asking the homeowners before us for their bills (which is legal if they say YES, which they did), and even then, not a good estimate, because they were a family of 5 with water running all the time, 3 TV's, running the dishwasher a bunch, etc. My mom said that it shouldn't be any different than what we were spending at the apartment, only water would be the surprise, since we had never paid that before and she was pretty much right. Water has never been above $50, electric was all the same, but we're also very conscious of what and how much we use.
So you may have to try and crunch number manually and try and look up a Utilities in Your Area-type website. Like I said, there was a website that offered averages in my area and neighborhood, but it was nowhere near the same. Averages were $250 for electric, $150 for water, $50 for trash and I pay WAY less than that every month.

I would suggest you find a similar sized home by the same builders and either ask the people that live there or call the utility company. Sometimes they can provide that information. Even the builder might be able to tell you.
