Is modern -art a scam ? can any homeless be an artist ? yes. no?

Why would you ask that question using that context? Why does it have to be a homeless person? Is that a way of saying someone is poor and if poor, inferior? 

I think there are artists and scam artists. 

I don't think it's quite so easy to say that all modern artists are the latter.Some work can be read by the trained eye for its merits, like an abstract piece might demonstrate a brilliant understanding of colour theory, for instance. And they can be very dynamic and expressive in a way that can be beautiful to a broad audience. 

But there are absolutely also people who are capitalizing on the art scene the same way brands do in fashion. There's nothing inherently superior about Supreme, for example - the quality of things they make are not better than most other fast fashion brands. But the logo itself is a status symbol and sells. So too with art in general. A piece of modern art may sell for an insanely high price simply because it is presented as having that worth. That's business! But yeah, I do think some people are swindlers. 

Now, not just anyone could do this. Your homeless, for instance, would probably still need access to halfway decent materials and would almost certainly need to sneak his body of work into a gallery space since he probably doesnt have any exhibitor connections. Just another way having money makes it easy to make more money. 

At the end of the day, if people want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for a banana nailed to a wall, who are we to stop them? The guy who was smart enough to think of it earned that paycheque in my books. 

Modern Art is definitely a huge scam. The painting shown resembles a painter's cleaning rag. Monkeys and babies could paint just as well or better. Anyone who pays millions for such garbage is  badly deluded. Painting has been declining since the end of the Baroque period. Salvador Dali the Spanish Surrealist said that one drop of Jan Vermeer van Delft's divine pigment is worth much more that all of the paintings that have appeared after his time.  Christin K is badly-deceived by these scammers I see. They are not expressing anything. Just flipping paint onto canvas cannot possibly express anything. It is sad that such people uphold the thieves. JOHN B is correct. John brings politics into it and lies horribly about the POTUS! He should say such things about Hillary Clinton! Miyuki & Kyojin give a fine answer. It is  sad that 5 misinformed zombies give them thumbs down. Cogito uses poor reasoning. Numerous fools are happy to be scammed in many ways, especially by religions. If Cogito had his way, fraud would not be a crime. Chaos would then ensue.

Art is an expression. Just because you don't think the expression you are seeing is something you either agree with or appreciate, it doesn't mean it isn't a valid expression. No, it's not a scam. It's a different way of expressing what an artist wants to express, and there's absolutely  nothing wrong with that. A scam is something that deliberately tries to deceive you--and art can't deceive you--because you either like it, or you don't like it. You can't be tricked by it. 

1/3 of America can't admit that they were wrong about our presidential con man either. That just means that they, and you, don't get it. He's still a con, that is still a $75 million work of art. Deal with it.

Most serious collectors would pay big money for a Jackson Pollock painting like that one valued at $18m. It is only worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it. If they have the money it really is up to them. I don't see it as a scam.
