That's a stereotype that isn't justified for any community. People are people, you meet good ones and not so good ones anywhere and everywhere.  Are there some rude/nasty people in Boston, sure.  Are there some rude/nasty people in Lincoln Nebraska, sure.  The types of people you will encounter will be completely by chance.

Generally speaking if you are nice to someone they will be nice to you.

I lived and worked in the Boston metro area for 30 years, I don't recall anyone I met standing out as being mean or unfriendly.

Very. The whole north east is full of rude, arrogant, and uncaring a wipes,Boston is only slightly less bad than the Goombahs in NY
