Xavi is one of the most overrated players ever (imo) Why list him among the Greats when dozens of midfielders were infinitely more talented?

Hundreds of midfielders were much better than Xavi...

People forget, were not born then or are simply ignorant about legends who played before him... Plus current players that are stronger too...

He's well inferior to Rjkaard, Seedorf, Modric, Iniesta, Scholes, Kroos, Pirlo, Makelele, Souness, Gattuso, Matthaus, Edgar Davids, Iniesta, Vieira, Redondo, Dunga, Breitner, Neeskens, Laudrup, Gerrard, Schuster, Roy Keane, Kante and many, many more

.... And that's ommitting the likes of Maradona, Zico, Platini, Zidane and all those midfielders with more attacking firepower.....

xavi was good but certainly not anywhere top 100. He was part of Pep team where it was easy to shine but I fail to understand the hype he had.

Would place him more in top 1000, and being generous.

He was certainly not one of the Top10 football players in history. However, he was the core on the field for the successful Spain and Barca for many years. And every attack went through him. There is absolutely nothing overrated about him. He is rather underrated.

It is ridiculous to say that Dunga, Makelele, Thiago Alcantara and Robson were better players And Rijkaard, Matthaeus and Gattuso were very different players than he was.

And why do you use your multiple accounts to give all those answers in your favour thumbs up?

He was Master of horizontal and backward passes.

He was brave enough to leave for a golden challenge in Qatar.

Even Xabi Alonso was better. He was long gone, so he didn't have to face the 8-2 humiliation against Bayern, like another famous overrated captain.

Why so overrated? Because of his titles?

Poor with tackles, inexistant in aerial duels. Known to the world because of his duet with Iniesta. Participating in the most overrated and mind-numbingly dull football style ever known: the tiki taka.  It was soooo boring to watch. But he was not only overrated. The guy appears as one of the most arrogant professionals out there. Not looking forward to his future press conferences as a coach the day he returns to Spain.

He wasn't overrated. Yes he wasn't as prolific in a goal scoring sense, however he was an absolutely brilliant midfielder. His vision and ability to pick a pass then deliver it was supreme. His composure on the ball, his ability to remain calm, dictate the pace of the game. His teamwork also needs mentioning. Football is a team game, you cannot build a team full of selfish players. His desire to always do the best for the team, know his role and do it superbly. Pep's Barcelona side wouldn't have worked without him. If you think he's overrated, name someone better in his role.
