How realistic are the Matt Stafford trade rumors?
I've been hearing alot of rumors that the Lions may trade Matt Stafford this offseason. This baffles me as I can't understand why they would do this. Anyone familiar with how reliable/realistic these rumors are? Has the team actually said anything? Has Stafford said he wants out? Where are these rumors coming from?

They're very realistic with Stafford approaching the end of his career and the Lions not having had a lot of success.

Since no real answer was posted here, I did some more digging on my own and eventually found that Stafford had trade rumors floated last offseason that were denounced by the team. Stafford himself has not asked for a trade.
However, Stafford's contract features an out for him after this season plus a large roster bonus payable this March. Plus all of his receivers are FAs.
The trade rumors are pure media speculation that the incoming Lions brass will want to rip everything down to the studs and start over with their own QB because Stafford might opt out next offseason and then they would be in a situation of franchising a QB that didn't want to be there and no long term stability in sight.
So to answer my own question, it's 100% media speculation based on a contract opt-out clause and the new brass perhaps wanting a total rebuild.

I think it is well overdue for Matt Stafford and the Detroit Lions to part ways. Stafford had ample time to show that he was a winner, and failed to do so. The most damning stat is that Stafford never won a division title or playoff game with the Lions in 12 seasons.
To be perfectly honest, the Lions should have moved on from Stafford last year, and drafted Tua Tagovailoa.

I think that's why he kneeled to make sure they trade him he had his day time to move on he's a .500 QB with the Lions but do not expect much in a trade maybe a 2nd pick would be fair .
