I was never specifically taught, but I watched how my grandma did things all the time as a child, and as an adult, it came back to me. My mom was never a good cook while we were growing up: single mom of 3 kinds, so lots of slap-together, 4 ingredient boxed canned meals that made plenty of leftovers, but I still paid some attention to that, too. I can double and triple anything in a heartbeat, so thanks mom! But it was my grandma that showed me the basics and fundamentals.

I learnt the 'basics' from my mother by watching her and making a lot of her homemade meals / baking.
Then I picked up methods and recipes as I went along, and I'm still learning!.

Nobody. I was taught by nobody.

My mother was not a good cook, and my father didn't cook, period.
I taught myself. I'm pretty good, but not great.

No one, my other barely cooked, feed us, we as she put it, were old enough to feed ourselves. Now some of the kids were allowed to feed themselves, the others. Had to make enough for everyone.

Between my uncle and grandma and learning from easy to learn recipe cookbooks up to cooking without recipes. Now I can cook almost anything with no problem
