Should you ever date a man who does not read books?

It will narrow the scope of your conversations. If reading and books are important to you, I'd think that quite the turn off if a person simply didn't read or enjoy it at all. Some guys have other extremely attractive traits that compensate.

I'm an avid reader and a writer, and I married a man who doesn't read fiction. It's not a big deal. I read, he works on his laptop or watches Netflix, and I can still talk books to him to some degree, as in I'll tell him what the book is about and ask what he thinks, or read a passage that I think is great out loud etc.

I definitely wouldn't.  But I'm straight and married, so dating men is kind of not even on my list.  Men who can't read would definitely be a nope in my book.

Whether or not you date illiterate men is entirely your business, I'm not here to judge.  On the con side, you'd have to read the menu to him on a dinner date.  On the pro side, you can keep all the secrets you want from him as long as you don't say it out loud.

No I shouldn't because I am married. To a man who doesn't read books. He wouldn't like it if I started dating. Also it has nothing to do with how much I enjoy reading. I read about 100 books a year, I don't need him to read with me, or to me. We have our own interests and just celebrated our 30th anniversary. 31 years ago when he asked me out I didn't say it depends on how many books you read per year. When we were dating, our dates involved going to dinner and movies and concerts, or clubs to see live bands, we went to the beach, and the mountains, theme parks and the zoo none of our dates involved reading. Reading is a solitary activity I can do on my own. We share other interests.

That's certainly my opinion. One of the reasons my husband and I are so compatible is that we both love to read. I'd never bother with a man who didn't enjoy reading for pleasure.

Much depends on how much YOU like to read, obviously.
