How do you see subtitles in video games better?

Higher resolution, so they look better. Larger screen, so they look bigger. Glasses, so they look sharper.

I like having the option. It can be a double-edged sword in terms of undercutting a performance or just reading something slightly before it is supposed to be said

but by and large, it is more helpful than not, b/c sometimes you can't make out what someone is saying, but a subtitle can keep it from being a mystery.

Put on glasses.  

Get closer to the screen.

if the game supports the feature change the UI (user interface) scaling in the games options, which simply makes the text either bigger ...taking up more screen space, or smaller

Get a bigger TV.
