There is a toxic chemical smell outside in the air for days now and no one believes me? ?
For the past five days, there has been a smell coming in my house through my window AC from outside. It smells like a mix of chlorine, bleach and freezer burn. The smell is overwhelming and I’ve had to lock myself in my bedroom and stuff a towel under the door because it makes me horribly sick. It gives me a headache, a sore throat, pain up my nose, tightness in my chest, and even nausea. We opened the windows and it just got worse so I know it’s coming from outside. The problem is no one seems to smell it but me. I keep telling my mom describing it and she just keeps saying she doesn’t smell it. No one believes me and they think I’m crazy. I’ve always been more sensitive to chemicals than everyone else, but someone has always been able to smell what I do at one point. No one but me seems to smell it and it’s driving me nuts. My mom now thinks it’s just a phantom smell and it’s not really there and it’s all in my head. I know it’s not. I have chemical allergies and I know when there is something in the air that is bad to breathe. It’s worrying me that something toxic might have been leaked somewhere and no one is doing anything about it or something. Do I have an control over this situation? Who can I call? Isn’t there anyone who is trained to investigate and identify smells? Or will no one care? I can’t even go anywhere and investigate because I’ve got a badly sprained foot and now can’t drive. This makes me feel even more hopeless because no one will investigate for me.

Hmm.... I would call someone else to come and see if they can smell it. Do you have any other friends or neighbors you can call? Maybe you're catching some illness that affects your sense of smell? There is a real disorder (just googled it) called 'Phantosmia', where people smell things that are not there. IT's not that common. Perhaps it is a sinus infection. If you cannot get anyone to smell it too, maybe you should see a doctor. It's worth getting to the bottom of this, I think. First get a bunch of people over there to see if they can smell it too. If they can't, see a doctor.

Not much you can do if you are crippled at the moment. I would be outside trying to locate the source of the smell. Look for any large recycling plants or waste collection stations that might incinerate excess trash near your house.
