You can legally own guns but your brother can't live with you if you choose to do so.

Your brother leaves.

You will have to keep them in a locked cabinet, and be able to prove your brother doesn't have access to the key. That's for both of your protections, one, he doesn't want to get into trouble if people think he can access your firearm's, and you don't want to get into trouble for providing access.
Personally I think if your brother wasn't a violent felon he should be able have second amendment rights. Someone who did something non violent and has led a good life after he paid his dues, should be allowed to defend themselves.
A lot of posters here think a felon cannot be around guns. that is not true, a felon cannot have possession of a gun. He or she can stand right next to someone who has one if they so choose.
Not all felons are dangerous people, and its time to stop treating them as if they were.
I mean we keep turning every other minor offense into a felony because it makes voters feel smug. Never mind what it does to the human who is involved.

Assuming you could otherwise legally own guns, your brother being a felon living in your home doesn't legally disqualify you from OWNING guns. It does, at least complicate, having the guns in your home. In the US, a convicted felon can't legally have access to the guns. It is difficult to have guns in the home without being accessible to the residents.

Can you? Absolutely. Where you might KEEP them, and whether you or anyone else has ACCESS to them is an entirely different discussion and would depend upon the laws and the terms of his release, if any.
Many states even allow convicted felons to go purchase their OWN firearms under various laws related to "restoration of rights" after whatever local laws and procedures are carried through. The federal government doesn't control all firearms ownership laws in the USA.

If you split legal hairs and take exceptional security measures, it could be technically legal for you to “own and possess” firearms in your home and have a felon reside there.
That means you could do everything right and then your brother (and possibly you) could be arrested, jailed, tried and eventually found not guilty.
In my opinion, it’s just not worth it. It’s much wiser to simply keep all your weapons (not just firearms) out of any structure that your brother has access to.

Sure, he just can't live with you. Nothing to do with him changes YOUR rights, but HE cannot be around guns as a felon.
