I know a couple who are biologically male and female, but the female identifies as male. That that make them a gay couple?
I do not know them well enough to actually approach the subject. They share an apartment with my daughter in college. The one who identifies as male makes no effort to take on a stereotypical male persona, and just has their long blond hair up in a ponytail while they breasts are well pronounced. I think if they did not look so much like a woman, then I could get my head around it better.

If the lady gets a "sex change" and the man still likes "him" they'd technically be a pansexual couple.

The transgender person is male despite having been born with female sex characteristics. If he identifies and portrays himself as male, and his mate views, accepts, and loves him as male, then they are a gay couple. Or to be more specific, they are a same-sex couple; either one could be bisexual, pansexual, demisexual, etc.

Why don't you just ask them how they prefer to be referred to. Might just be "couple."
