Generator still running, no power and SOUNDS DIFFERENT.?

Just as I was switching over to generator, it very briefly powered up the room then the generator started sounding differently (more loose, louder) without powering the room.

It tripped the circuit breaker and unloaded the engine.

Look at the power switch. does it say On/off/reset or Rst. It sounds like you are trying to run too much stuff from your Generator. look in the manual for circuit breaker.

A loaded generator sounds differently than a generator not delivering power (like when the breaker trips).  You have to be careful to not overload your generator. Electric heaters, vacuum cleaners, dryers, electric stoves are big users. You are going to have to turn stuff off so the generator doesn't trip.

maybe you should get a mechanic to check it out

A circuit breaker probably tripped on the generator because of too much of a load. Then the generator sounded different because it was no longer under load. Check the circuit breaker on the generator or any other thing that could cause the load to switch off.
