In the Jungle Book (2016), when were they planning to tell Mowgli that Akela is dead ?

In the live action version of The Jungle Book, Shere Khan kills Akela by throwing him off the cliff, and yet for most of the time, Mowgli is unaware that Akela  is dead, until he meets up with King Louie, where at the one point, when he mentions about going back to the pack, King Louie says, "oh you didn't hear Akela is dead, must have been account on you", and Mowgli accuses him of lying, and then he asks Bagheera if it is true, that Akela is dead, and he tells him, "we were going to tell you". When was he planning to tell him, the movie doesn't show exactly how Bagheera learns as he was on the trip with Mowgli to take him to the man village, and they had to get separated as Shere Khan was in the area. And Bagheera does know, and tells Baloo that Akela is dead, when Baloo mentions Akela to Bagheera. And when Mowgli finds out, he says "you both knew, and nobody did anything about it".
