Why doesn’t Yahoo sell Yahoo Answers and just have it named something else?

Since they wouldn't be able to use the well known brand name of "Yahoo Answers" it would be a lot less expensive for someone to start their own useless Q&A site from scratch.

Someone has to want to buy it.  No one does. It's dead.

    It already has been..

Yahoo doesn't own Y!A. It's pretty much as the first answerer stated. Also why comments were removed.

Anon. Could you please explain further? What legal liabilities? Why would it be too costly to fix?

Maybe if we pool our points together we could buy it?

You mean Verizon. Yahoo doesn't actually exist anymore, it's just a brand name owned by Verizon. They won't sell it because it isn't a source of revenue, it has huge legal liabilities, and it would be too costly to fix.
