the forum has not been the same in many years. It was a lot more informative 8-15 years ago. Posters like Kano (RIP) were misinformed, but at least willing to check facts. Others became more trolls like Dr Jello, Solarwind and many others. Great insights from Pegminer, Teresa, Trevor over the years!

At first Sagebrush agreed with his methods, but as he continued, there was no way to defend that nonsense.  Sagebrush just attacked those who accept AGW as a fact with his, often out of context and even manufactured "quotes" and pretend to be a good Cristian at the same time.    To deal with that is simple, simply point out Sagebrush's quotes and repeatedly pointing out that his ridiculous claim of his "god having a hand on the thermostat", made his god responsible for all the heat and cold related deaths.  It took a while to sink in with him and he did try to change the formulation once, but I wouldn't let it go.  With people like him (who are hiding behind the good things Jesus has done) you have to be relentless.

But please, next time you play chess with pigeons, don't go into lengthy explanations, while I and other here really did enjoyed reading them, they will deliberately misinterpret what you say.  Keep it short, establish what parts of the basic science is that they deny.  If they accept AGW is a fact, but claim it won't be bad, again, ask them to prove that.  Start by asking them to define "bad" as it varies.   it is a strategy where you can not lose.  Although, for some one like you who likes teaching at university level, it isn't much fun.

Your ultimate aim is to have a reasoned discussion and find some form of common ground, which can't be had when some one denies basic science.

And to Jim Z, I know you are a decent guy, stop worrying about communists so much, the communist party is tiny.  Instead look into single payer health care, it is more efficient (cheaper and better outcomes) Isn't the justification for capitalism efficiency?  What do you do when capitalism does not offer the most efficient way for something we don't want to deny others access to?  And I agree that democrats can be idiots as well at times, but you chose to move to a democrat led state because of better economic future for you and your family.  Not asking you to switch parties, just asking you to be reasonable in your opposition...

There are much bigger challenges ahead than global warming, solar panels are dirt cheap now, batteries prices are plummeting (I just ordered  another 7kWh) same for charge controllers and inverters.  Although they are going to need a lot more development and some really smart engineers instead of MBA's

In any case, let me thank you and all others who did try to teach people like me something about AGW.  Even though it wasn't my primary reason to come here I did learn some things over this decade or so and do appreciate it.
