Will Japanese Princess Mako get married?

Japanese people are concerned about the marriage semi-engagement between Princess Mako and Kei Komuro. Now that 97 percent of the Japanese are against this engagement, they will have hard time actually getting married.

How much about this news is reported here in the U.S?

I've actually seen stories in the US, though the last I heard, the engagement had simply been put on "pause". That was a while ago.

Given how rigidly the IHA controls news and information about the imperial family in Japan, no one outside of Japan is going to learn much that the IHA doesn't want the world to know. That being the case, the Japanese imperial family simply isn't very interesting to westerners, who want information "warts and all".  The IHA's version is quite tedious compared with what we learn of western royals.

Westerners have been much more interested in the travails of Empress Masako over the years than in anything else.

News about the Japanese monarchy usually consists of stories about the emperor or the heir--not much is known about the Japanese monarchy in the US.

As to whether the marriage takes place, time will tell.
