Cutting back on my time on Y!A for now. No time for it and I already reached my goal of 4000 pts. I'll still be on sometimes. I tend to write long essays as answers, so sorry about that. I try to be as thorough as possible in my answers. I specialize more in recommending manga that fit a certain request, but I also do anime as well as information on the anime/manga industry. I do dabble in extraneous topics once in awhile though. I tend to make grammar errors in my answers since English is not my first language. Sorry about that! • Find the equation and vertical asymptote of the function?

"On a 120 mile trip, the average speed of a truck was x miles per hour. On the return trip, the average speed was y miles per hour. The average speed for the round trip was 40 miles per hour. Write the equation that expresses y as a function of x. Identify the vertical asymptote of the function."

I found the function to be y = 20x/(x-20), but that doesn't make sense because it doesn't have an asymptote. My teacher told me that an asymptote does exist for this problem, however.

  • Computer doesn't have mic jack?

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop and it doesn't have a microphone jack. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can connect my mic to it..?

I record, mix, and tune music, so I can't do with my computer's crappy built in mic. I went to an electronics store to ask about this mic problem and they argued with me for almost two hours, saying "All new computers don't have mic jacks! They're built in with the headphone jacks! Just stick the mic in the headphone jack again and it just might work! Believe me, I sell computers so I know more than you!" I ended up getting a headphone-to-mic converter because I didn't trust them. But regardless, my mic still doesn't work, even with the converter. I'm kind of stuck right now because I can't use my mic anymore. I don't want to spend more money to buy a new USB mic because my mic cost a fortune to get...

My computer is 64-bit and Win8. I got it the spring of this year. I'm sure that my mic isn't broken, since it still works fine in my old computer.

    Thanks!

  • A sensor that makes a sound when you go near it?

I have a elderly grandmother who recently went blind. Since she lost her sight, she has been having difficulty finding her apartment. In order to help her find her way home after her walks, my family and I are looking for a type of sensor where when you approach it, it'll make a loud sound so she knows that she has arrived at her apartment door.

We were hoping to find something along the lines of you can wear the thing and hang a corresponding sensor on the door. When you approach the door, the sensor on the door will sense the thing you are wearing and start making a loud sound.

Does anyone know of anything like this and where [such as a website] we can buy one? We don't have a set budget range; anything is fine as long as it fits the description and is not complicated to use. Or, you can also suggest an alternative that might work, but we'd really prefer something that fits the above description.

    Thanks!

  • Binomial distribution homework question?

I made the stupid decision of sleeping in class, so now I have no idea how to do binomial distributions in word problems.

    Here's the question:

"An ordinary fair cubical die is thrown 10 times. Given that there are at least 3 threes, fit the probability that the number of threes is 4 or more."

The answer, according to the answer key, is 0.3102.

So does anyone know the steps to getting that?

    Thanks!

  • Statistics question: Rescaling data?

Hi I have a question about my statistics homework. Here's the problem:

"A convenient rule of thumb is SAT = 40 X ACT +150; that is, multiply an ACT score by 40 and add 150 points to estimate the equivalent SAT score. An admissions officer reported the following statistics about the ACT scores of 2355 who applied to her college one year. Find the summaries of equivalent SAT scores.

    Lowest score: 19

    Mean: 27

    Standard Deviation: 3

    Q3: 30

    Median: 28

    IQR: 6"

What I'm having trouble with is the Standard Deviation. If I plug in the SD = 3 into the SAT = 40 X ACT +150, I get SAT = 270. But the answer key said that the answer is supposed to be 120. I later figured out it could be that you're supposed to only do multiplication or division with measures of spread? That would make sense because SAT = 40 X 3 = 120, but I'm not too sure if what I'm doing is right or not.

Can I have confirmation for this? My teacher didn't teach us this because we didn't have time. She gave us a powerpoint, but it was very vague, so I'm kind of confused.

    Thanks!

  • What is the slant asymptote of f(x) = (x^2-1)/x?

Can you give me the process of how to do this? I was taught that you divide the numerator by the denominator and the answer would be the slant asymptote and the remainder would be the vertical asymptote, but it's not really working here since the answer I got from using the process was different from what my calculator graphed. Thanks!

  • How to get good, clear bands when running a gel electrophoresis?

I was wondering if there were any tricks to getting clear banding when running a gel. Like getting those clear, picture perfect gels you see done by professionals. Because whenever I run one, it always gets somewhat blurred. Here's an example: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/392366_26...

I don't puncture the wells nor do I leak much of the substance out when I pipette it. [either barely or none] Did I load too much into each well or something? [I only pipette in the amount that the gel can hold though.] Do I have to run it longer or shorter?

    Thanks!

  • Calculating angular velocity and acceleration of planet Io?

    Io information:

    Orbital Radius: 42180 km (42180000 m)

    Radius: 1821 km (1821000 m)

    Year: 11.84 days (1022976 s)

    Length of Day: 9 hr 50 min (35400 s)

What is the angular velocity of Io? And what is the angular acceleration needed to stop Io from spinning in 10 earth years [exclude leap years, use just 365 days].

Please show calculations and work. Thanks!

  • Bacteria identification?

Can someone name a bacteria that has these following characteristics:

    1) Smooth border/texture on colonies

    2) Colony size around 4mm, but can be a bit greater or less

    3) Gram negative

    4) Coccus/Spherical

    5) Colonies are yellow on outside but red/brown on inside

    6) Smells kind of like original flavored potato chips but more potent [I'm not sure about this one, since it might have been the agar smell mixed with the bacteria smell. Disregard this fact if needed...]

At first I thought it might have been Staphylococcus aureus or S. epidermidis since we've used that a lot in most of our labs, but after I thought about it, none of them have red centers and are gram negative. I also considered it maybe being Serratia marcescens since we also used that before, but that's bacillus.

Just curious, because my teacher used this type of bacteria in one of my labs, but he never told us what is was and said he wouldn't tell us until much later. ): Just basically any bacteria that fits that description and is commonly used in classrooms and research.

  • Anime or manga/manhua/manhwa etc that has this specific criteria? [mystery]?

That has all of these points please. All of them. And I mean it. I will shoot people who recommend me series that don't have these points. ):< I am really pissed at all those people who recommend me series that are completely irreverent to what I'm asking for. I feel like 90% of Y!A people don't know how to read.

    1) No romance. Nada. Absolutely no romance. None of that "oh there's only a little romance". No I don't want anything to do with romance. I sick of the large quantities of romance out there. No no no no no.

    2) No hentai or any pornographic material

    3) Mystery with detectives.

4)Not any mystery but something that actually makes the reader think and is a really complex mystery. Nothing with shallow/obvious cases like in Gosick, Detective Conan, or Detective Loki [the manga's cases were okay but not the anime's]. My intelligence is the same as any other person's, so you won't have to look too far to find a good one.

    5) No supernatural. I'm sick of supernatural detectives.

    6) Minimum murder cases. I'm also getting sick of murder cases.

Manga I've read or are currently reading that involves detectives:

Himitsu [This one was great, but there too many murder cases. No me gusta.]

Lady Detective [Not the best since there was too much romance, not enough mystery, and too many murder cases. Cases were also too shallow.]

Fantasm [This one was okay.. But it's supernatural and there weren't any real cases.]

0 no Soukoushi [Likewise, too many murder cases. There were no cases that stood out as particularly interesting. Cases were really shallow.]

The Teddy Bear Murder Case [Not a real mystery manga... ):]

Anime I've watched or are currently watching that involves detectives:

Death Note [This one was okay, but it has supernatural and it became really repetitive. There was also romance, which I don't want.]

Matantei Loki Ragnarok [The anime's cases weren't good. The manga was good, but both the anime and the manga contained supernatural stuff. There was also romance that I didn't want.]

Yakushiji Ryouko no Kaiki Jikenbo [This one was okay, but the cases were also really shallow and too much supernatural plus romance.]

Meitantei Holmes [Not a real mystery, but I'm just putting this out there saying that I've watched this already]

Anyamal Tantei Kiruminzoo [Also not a real mystery anime. Too much romance too.]

Kuroshitsuji [I don't know why I keep getting this when I ask for detective anime. Nothing to do with detectives and I didn't like it because of the shallow mysteries.]

Gosick [Didn't like the cases and romantic elements. The cases were really stupid and obvious.]

Dantalian no Shoka [I've also had people recommend me this series though it does not have anything to do with detectives. I thoroughly hate this series. I want to drench this series in a highly concentrated solution of HCl.]

Detective Conan [Too many murder cases and the cases were too obvious and shallow.]

Suteki Tantei Labyrinth [Too shallow cases and too many romantic and supernatural elements. The only part I liked about this series was that the protagonist was a shota. ):]

Kamisama no Memochou [Too shallow and obvious cases with too many romantic elements.]

Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro [Too much supernatural and murder cases. The cases were too obvious and shallow too. The manga had romance, which I also didn't like.]

UN-GO [Too much supernatural and the cases were too obvious and there were too many murder cases.]

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo [I despised this. Too much supernatural and romance. The cases were really stupid.]

CLAMP Gakuen Tanteidan [Wtf was this. Absolutely horrible cases.]

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes [Another wtf series. This one was stupid and the never solved actual cases.]

  • Why can't mutated DNA be corrected during the post-transcriptional stage?

This was part of a question from a post lab analysis on UV light radiation and it's effect on DNA. [if possible, please relate to UV radiation]

I only know that it can't be corrected and is likely last throughout the cell's life... That's about it.

  • Is there a significance to the grains of rice that float in water?

I noticed this many times I was washing rice. [I know, I'm really Asian lol] Some grains of rice would float up in the water whereas most would sink. Is there a significance to the rice that float up? Such as they taste different, aren't good, dry, etc?

I kinda mean this in a culinary sense, but I want a more scientific definition if that's okay.

  • Biotechnology anime or manga/manhwa/manhua [with accurate information]?

I was wondering if there were anime or manga/manhwa/manhua that are heavily based on biotechnology with accurate information. I don't want manga that has a bunch of false and made up information, do no recommend me those.

I repeat, I don't want manga that has a bunch of false and made up information, do no recommend me those. I will take no exceptions for those series.

I repeat again for those of you who don't read descriptions: I don't want manga that has a bunch of false and made up information, do no recommend me those. I will take no exceptions for those series.

I would also require that the manga or anime actually incorporates biotechnology information.

The best example I could think of is Ilegenes. It's mainly about cloning, but it also includes biotechnology information. For instance, one character named Janis has a clone named ES, who's name alludes to Embryonic Stem cell or ES cells. This tells readers that ES was made using embryonic stem cells, obviously.

Something like Steins;Gate might also work since they talked about neurological impulses in the body and using it to implant memories into one's past self. But I don't want a recommendation like that because it's mostly physics, not entirely biotechnology.

Basically I want the anime or manga/manhwa/manhua's creator to to show me or the audience that they know what they're talking about. Not something like Dantalian no Shoka where the creator has no idea what the subjects in the story are and yet attempts to spin a story about it. The part about evolution particularly ticked me off because they mixed up Lamarck's theory of evolution with Darwin's. No I do not want something like that.

I'm okay with any genre. I don't like romance, but this time I'll make an exception for it.

  • Anime or manga with character that has this color eyes?

I really liked the peacock color of Fon's eyes and was wondering if there's any other character with the same eye color. Here's a picture of him:

    http://i.yai.bz/assets/94/708/l_p1022270894.jpg

    (The guy with black hair)

NOT blue or green but PEACOCK.

However, I'm also looking for characters with multicolored eyes. Like Apollon's from Olimpos:

    http://i17.mangareader.net/olimpos/6/olimpos-12688...

Like heterochromia iridum where one iris has more than one color instead of each iris has a separate color. I can find a lot of characters who have heterochromia where each iris has a different color, but not multicolored...

    Thanks!

  • Did this method of torture actually exist?

I read about it before, but I'm not sure if it actually exists.

You dangle a prisoner at a height where his or her feet can almost touch the ground. In this way the prisoner will be driven crazy from endlessly trying escape.

Weird question, sorry, but I though it was really absurd and I was wondering if it really exists.

Do you just adjust the opacity and color of the brushes and layers or is there something else? [I don't want to be annoying and ask the artist after s/he deactivated his/her Pixiv ;w;]

It doesn't have to be anime style; I've seen this type of coloring before on other styles and I've been wondering...

  • Why does everyone still ask for romance anime?

More than half the anime/manga recommendation questions are the same: Does anyone know any good romance anime or manga? I like slice of life, comedy, and shoujo. Preferably it's school life. I've read/watched Fruits Basket, Ouran High School Host Club, and Kaichou wa Maidsama already and I want something like those~

Why don't they just do a quick and easy search to find all the other "I need a romance anime!" questions before asking one themselves?
