  • Race affecting college admission?

I am a Asian American. I want to apply to Tier 1 schools, not Ivy League. I understand that Asians are not considered a minority in college campuses....but some schools I want to apply too such as University of Florida, Clemson University, and University of PIttsburgh DO have Asian as a minority. In fact some schools I want to apply too have more Hispanics and African Americans than Asians. Would affirmative action help me at THAT point or would it STILL go against me as they expect more out of me and Asians are not minorities in overall college, My GPA is not bad. a 3.3, which I understand is not up to par with other Asians. I have a 3.8 Weighted I got 1,960 on my SATs. I want to know if CERTAIN schools such as the ones I listed above with less asians would benefit me for being Asian or should I just not report my race?

  • Reporting a race to college?

I am a Asian American. But I am not the typical Asian. My GPA and SAT isn't amazing. GPA is 3.25 and SAT 1,900. I do take a lot of APs and GTs and Honors and I am a pretty athletic Standout (Many Varsity letters in Track and Cross Country) and I am in many clubs which I hold officer positions in. I also have 100 + Volunteer hours. I was in FBLA and participated in county and regional testings and I am in the Business Management academy. I can write a very good essay (it's my specialty actually) and the teachers writing my letters of recommendations are very close and had me for 2-3 years and my Guidance counselor is very close to me also. So it doesn't look to bad. But not to be stereotypical of my own race, It is far off of what other asians can do. (4.0s and 2400s yeah yeah) But people said I should report my race because I have a lot of things going for me because a lot of asians aren't sport standouts and many don't volunteer as much. But I am afraid it'll put me out of a college chances because I look bad academically compared to them. I am considering not reporting my race but my name is pretty obviously asian haha. I will be receiving a certificate of Merit also and I am top 25 % of my class (My school is very competitive and ranked top in my State) I also plan to take the ACTS and score around a 28-29 on them.

    My Question.

    1) Should I report my race to the colleges even though it'll put me at a disadvantage?

    2) (Please answer even if you said I SHOULD report my race) Are colleges ALLOWED to judge me as a asian even if i mark Unreported race because my name is really easy to tell I am asian?

  • Times needed to run in College?

I am just checking what kind of times you need to run in college?

For Division I, II, and III. Please provide specific times for II and III because that is where I am most likely going and I already have an idea on Division I times which are out of my reach for now. Thank you very much ahead of time!

  • Cross Country training?

I did Cross Country for the first time in my Junior year. It was really fun and I was rather successful. Our school has one of the hardest courses in the state and I started out running a 24:09 and finished the season running a 19:52. I did not run AT ALL prior to the first day of practice(we don't cut) Running a 19:57 at our course means we can do around 19:10s at most courses because we have a lot of hills and stuff. But because I chose to study my junior year and prepare for SATs, I did not participate in Indoor track and I have not really been working out. I also have gotten a lot slower. But I definetly plan to restart during Outdoor Track and train hard over the summer for next season to make our top 7 (varsity) because we graduated a lot. However our school had a lot of fast freshmen and sophomores who are doing Indoor Track and getting faster then me. My friend said that Track doesn't influence your cross country season and only SUMMER TRANING does. is that true? I plan to train some this winter and go all out during summer and spring wit high mileage. But does doing Indoor Track put them way ahead of me? Because I heard that everybody is at even pace during beginning of summer more then anything

  • Shoplifting at Target?

I was shopping at Target and I saw a shoplifter getting tackled down HARD onto the ground by Target's LPO, Security, etc. I'm thinking.....isn't that a little rough? Can't they go a little calmly? Shoplifting is wrong and people who do it should get punished but what if the person got seriously hurt or disabled(rare but possible) by the tackle.

  • Penn State?

The main campus of Penn State (University Park) is definetly the best one and everything else doesn't seem to be worth going to. However, just in case I wish to apply to ONE and only ONE other branch campus. Which do you recommend and why? Which is the best education wise

Thank you very much ahead of time

  • Presendential Election of 2008?

    Barack Obama v John McCain.

Place your votes and reason here.

Don't do anything like "McCain because Obama is a terrorist" and don't insult people who have another view.

  • The Election of 2008?

I do not care which candidate wins. But right now, I prefer John McCain for our leader. But of course the Democrats say "Alright enjoy going into the army because he's going to hold a draft"? What are you views and who do you wish to win. and is it true about the draft? It seems likely for he supports the unofficial war.

  • Which is the best out of these colleges?

It is the end of my Junior year and I live in Maryland. My GPA is a 3.3 Unweighted and I take Honors courses. I was a member of our Varsity football team(we didn't do so well though and I wasn't anything really good) and on Track & Field. My SAT Score was 720 Math 500 Critical Reading and 520 Writing. I don't think I can go anywhere good. I have donated numerous times to causes like Katrina, the Earthquake in China, and many other things. I have very good attendance in school(have not missed a day yet nor I haven't been tardy) and I have a Squeaky clean criminal record.

    My considerations were

    Salisbury

    Villa Julie

    UMBC

    Towson

    Penn State schools

    East Carolina University

Which is the best one out of those and do you have other recommendations for my kind of grades?

  • What is going to happen to me (Shoplifting)?

I was caught today stealing $30 worth of stuff from the Local Supermarket. I don't usually do it, I just didn't have enough money. I have no excuse except for my own stupidity and I'm not asking for sympathy.

The Store Manager threatened me by saying "I'm not going to college and I'm going to jail." I think that's just a threat to scare me to not do it again.

However he stated "I just want what you stole back" I handed it over right away. I apologized over and said I won't do it agin.

He only said Get out of my store and Don't let me catch you in here for a long time.

He did not get any information from me he only asked for my FULL (First and Last) name in the beginning and my school I attend. No police was contacted, he didn't ask for any Other information, and he didn't even call my parents.

I get good marks in school and I have no Offenses at ALL.

What do you think will happen?

Thank you I really appreciate this.
