I have difficulties doing a double turn. I need advise.?

I find it hard doing a double turn. I usually fell down when trying to do it. What would you advise me to do?

    First you have to perfect your single turn. If you cannot execute your single turn without ending in balance and placing your foot down on the floor--not landing quickly so you don't fall--then you will have trouble with the double. Practice your single over and over and perfect them so your body will be in complete control through the entire turn.

    Here are some ways to help improve your turns:

    your head--spot quickly and precisely, keeping the same spot with each rotation, don't let your spot "drift".

    your upper body--keep you stomach muscles tight and firm, keep you rib cage in line, squeeze your buttocks, keep a good firm tension in all of it.

    your arms--make sure your arms are in correct preparation and execution positions. Keep your movements strong, but do not whip them around, this will pull your upper body out of place. Keep the shoulders pressing down, don't lift them.

    your legs--make sure you are centered in the plie' that is your preparation. Push off the floor and keep your supporting leg straight (unless your doing a jazz turn and your teacher asks for it in plie') and keep your foot in releve'--don't turn on your heel-- The working leg should pull up to the passe quickly and tightly, holding a firm passe during the entire turn, remember to keep pressing your turn out but don't allow the hip to pop up (unless you are doing a jazz turn-keep the leg turned in but watch the hip so you don't lift it)

    These tips should help no matter how many rotations you are doing.

    Okay

    make sure you start out right.

    1. Make sure if in 4th position more weight is front leg.

    2.keep yor butt but not so much that your back is nots straight.

    keep shoulders down

    neck long and look straight ahead

    3.bring your leg to posse quickly do not diddle dalley bring up

    fast.

    4/ When turning push deep into floor.

    5. When up in posse make sure everything is straight.

    Do NOT WHIP your arms. It is so tacky.

    6. SPOT. I f spoting something try saying it everytime it comes around like (light, light,light) Pretend it is something you want really bad.( the person of your dreams or chocolate, or water, or Mc Donald's)

    7. Land it

    If you are talking about a double piroutte, then my advice to you is to make sure you are contracting your core muscles. The reason you fall over is because of balance and having a tight center will help you keep your balance.

    Don't "whip" your body. Keep your posture upright, and bring your inside shoulder back, instead of bringing the outside shoulder around. Keep your core muscles in some tension- stomach and buttocks. Don't over power the turn.

    If you throw yourself into it, you start out of control, and have to regain control. Maintain control throughout the turn.

  • dance tall. reach ur arms out from ur center and hold them there. stay in releve. CONTROL. don't throw yourself into the turn. spot quickly. start out slow. tap shoes are good for turning.

    pretend there is a rod in your spine and SPOT!!!! Spotting is everything.

    Spotting is finding a place to focus when you return to your starting point. If that makes sense.

    Make sure you are whipping your body around quickly. Mainly your upperbody...that helps me!

    doing the corrrect prep!

    suck in your stomach!

    keep your spot!

    keep your movement controlled!

    dont lose hope!
