Do you think Mark Martin may regret running all the races if he ends up just barely missing the chase?

From what I have heard, Martin's retirement is all about his son. He promised Matt that he would become more involved in his racing career, and kept putting it off.

Sure Mark would be disappointed if he barely missed the Chase, but I think that the time he will be spending with Matt and helping his racing career to take off will be more rewarding than making the chase or even winning the cup.

I do not think that Mark Marting regrets missing Bristol. He spent last weekend working with his son Matt race at a short track in Florida. He has often said that he wanted to spend more time with his family. I think he is doing exactly what he wants and really does not care about trying to win the Chase.

He has already done wonders for the Ginn race team. I think he will help them win a couple of races this year and maybe the owner's points.

As long as he says he is happy, we should quit speculating on his feelings.

He's running so few races this season that I don't think he will barely miss it. He will miss it by a long shot I think. Owner points he may do Ok.. But not Driver Points. He's missing to many races. And if he wanted to run for the CHASE he would have. This just shows that hes committed to his part-time schedule and his son Matt's success in the LATE MODEL series. I say GO MARK GO! and just to get you all thinking.. He's playing crew chief for Ricky right now, and I REALLY, REALLY expect Mark to make a return to NEXTEL CUP FULL TIME in the next 3-5 years as a CREW CHIEF. Look for him to still try and get that coveted NASCAR CUP TITLE through being a crew chief. Just something to ponder about....

And to the constant w/in 400 points answers I see posted on this question, and many many others... Check the rules this year. The 400 points rule was tossed out people. Get with it.

I personally dont think that Mark had any intentions of racing this year to make the Chase as that would be great and all but still I don't think thats what hes racing for hes had some great runs recently and was doing good in points and everything and I think that if he makes it thats great but if he doesnt then thast that. I personally don't think hes going to retire this year as racing is something thats hard to get away from you will always have it in your heart and in you forever.

He basically has retired he doesn't care about where he ends up. He's only racing enough races so the new driver isn't considered as a rookie this year. He's like a retired football player except that he can still do what he likes to do when he wants to now.

I think that anyone that tried for some type of championship wished they would of, could of. For Mark, I think he just missed his opportunity. Yeah, he gets to see his son and all, but to be leading the points, retiring at the end of the year, what's adding 10 races gonna do, I don't know maybe win a championship and 6 million dollars. I think he is stupid and cause his son is in racing that he would understand, maybe not now, but when he is older and see's the Nextel Cup Trophy on his dad's mantel, he will have that pride in his dad, and know that if he keeps trying that he will become just like his dad. Now, maybe he thinks his dad is just giving up. Nice one Mark.

I think Mark made the right choice. How many times can one man retire ? He wants to spend time with his son &if Mark was to win the cup ,many nascar fans would say that Nascar riged the season. He will still be one of the most respected drivers to ever race.My hats off to him

You would think that after all the answers Mark has given every time the topic was brought up, you would think he could care less, but im sure something is burning in his mind saying "You fool, your leading the points, go for the Cup!!!".

I know if I was in his position, I would get into the race.

I think Mark Martin is just ridiculous. I liked him until he did what he did to Roush last year. He complained that Roush wouldn't give him a full schedule to run AFTER he had announced his retirement the year before and now; after leaving Roush for what he said would be a full schedule in his new ride; he has gone to a limited schedule anyway. Its sounds like he's getting to old to make sense.

no i don't think he's worried about that. all has to do is be 400 points and way he was running when he was racing he wont have a problem being in the chase
