Traveling from England to California.....?

I have travelled from California to England several times, and know what to expect...but have no idea what to tell my boyfriend what to expect on his visit here. I have heard that the United States immigration is more difficult and annoying lol. Is this true? Could any English citizens please tell me their experiences? Thank you.

(My boyfriend is English)

Update:

*edit*

no offense to anyone, but I am hoping for experience and/or suggestion answers... not just yes or no point grabbing ones lol. thanks! :)

Given that, whatever people's opinion of the US is, Americans are probably the friendliest people on Earth, I have repeatedly wondered where they get/clone their immigration officers from.

Possibly the least friendly or polite individuals you will ever have the misfortune to meet. You are forced to queue for eons. When you get to the front clutching your card that you have (hopefully) ticked to confirm that you are not a terrorist/ a drug dealer / or a wanted criminal (does anyone ever tick the yes box??) you are subjected to your first US citizen on US soil. This person will regard you as a potential illegal immigrant whose sole wish in life is to be an american. Do not attempt humour or to point out that much as they're nice and all, you really don't want to be an american. The guard person/zombie will regard this as sacrilage and you may find yourself on the flight home. This person sees it as their mission to remind you that you are not an american (ie; you are barely human and to be pitied) and should be extremely grateful to be allowed in and that they have your details and will be checking up on you to ensure you leave.

Look at it as a comic endurance test and he'll be alright. Once through the gates, everyone is much nicer!!

The only thing i remember about the US immigration was that the line was very long, i had to answer questions about where i was staying and who with etc and how long i was planning to stay for. I'm sorry if this doesn't help much.
