  • What is with?.......?

People from England, Scotland or Wales constantly complaining about people calling them British? How is that different than someone calling me, someone from California, American?

I realize that the make up of the countries are different. Wales, Scotland and England are separate countries, and the states are not. But we are both part of larger entities.

I also know I am making a generalization, but do you know what I mean? If the 3 above mentioned countries are all part of Great Britain, why are there so many against being called British?

I have heard that the United States immigration is more difficult and annoying lol. Is this true? Could any English citizens please tell me their experiences? Thank you.

  • Hotels in London?

I am flying in to London (Heathrow) in December, and the drive to my b/f's house takes about 3 hours, so when we get home we are both exhausted...(Since he has to drive for 3+ hours to pick me up, not to mention the wait for me to get through customs lol) Can someone recommend a reasonably priced hotel in London, not ratty lol, so we can just go there, then go home the next day?

I want to take him to the vet, but I am between jobs at the moment and, while I can afford the 'office visit', I can't afford any type of diagnostics or treatments, if needed. Does anyone know of low cost veterinary care in southern California? Specifically Orange County. Thank you for your help.

  • Which roundabout is near Big Ben?

I've been to England twice and never spent time in London, except Heathrow lol...and am going again on Tuesday. I would like to go through the roundabout where Big Ben is. I will be flying into Gatwick this time, and I stay in the East Midlands. Would this location be 'on the way' to where I am staying? What is the roundabout called?

  • Why does everyone assume "Blue" is American?

Just because s/he is a jackass doesn't mean s/he is American lol. By the words and descriptions frequently used in the questions, I would guess s/he is a Brit! Either way, I think s/he is only asking these dumbass questions to get a rise out of people lol.

*I hope s/he's not anyhow, makes the rest of us look like idiots! And if so, its just another reason for me to leave this country! lol*

  • Is anybody else sick of...?

People trying to turn the illegal immigration issue into a race issue? Also, I live in southern California, and any time I bring up illegal immigration, it is automaticaly assumed that I am refering to those that cross the border between Mexico and the southwest states....why is that? In my opinion, an illegal immigrant is any person, from any country, who comes to and stays in the United States illegally, and as such, should not be allowed to stay. Your thoughts on one or both issues?

  • Typical work schedule in England?

What is the typical work schedule in England?...

For example, in America, we generally work 5 days, 2 days off. It's a 40 hour work week, 8 hour days with a 1 hour lunch. Overtime (time and a half) is paid for any hours worked over 40 hours per week, and here in California we get overtime pay for anything over 8 hours per day as well. Usually after 3 months or so our 'benefits' kick in, which is medical, dental, etc... After a year you get vacation time, which will vary by employer, but generally starts at 1 week for each of the 1st few years of service, taken after the 1st year, and goes up from there...

What is it usually like there?
