Do Fundamentalists ever make you upset?

Whether they be Christian, Islamic, whatever...do their extremely rigid views on religion ever make you a little sad? Do they ever make you feel like humanity is tearing itself apart through legalism? Sometimes it makes me a bit blue.

I'm just curious to see if I'm the only one.

Update:

Bartthollemew and alterego dude... I don't know you well enough, but I get the fundie vibe, so you'd probably fall under that category. The complete alienation of anything else other than one's OWN beliefs.

Ever heard "Three Faiths, One God"? It's still not all inclusive, but it's a step in the right direction. If one even chooses to believe in a god.

Update 2:

The Bible doesn't make me uncomfortable...it doesn't make me feel anything. Some people would say that's a problem, but I don't know what I really think about that. When people throw Scripture around, I often take it with a grain of salt, because the Bible isn't the only book considered holy in the world. What about the Qur'an? To those who study Islam, is that not considered the holiest of texts? But when Christians read it, they don't get the same connotation or feeling...usually. I can't speak for everybody.

The Bible could very well be just a book. So the quotes don't mean very much (and neither do they justify anything) unless you believe.

The Fundamentalist Muslims make me mad when they report a post simply because they do not want people to hear or even debate the mesage . I recently had an anwer deleted that was a listing of quotes from the USA tax exempt "cilvil rights" group CAIR ( Center for American Islamic Relations ). These leaders and membes called for the overthrow of the US goverment . To have Islam placed above all others in the USA . To have the USA fly the flag of Islam . A promise that someday this all would be so . This response violated no Y! guidlines yet a big push by the Fundamentalist Muslims got it deleted .

It makes me both mad and sad when I see the Fundamentalist ( and so-called moderates like the CAIR people ) cause the world to spend so much time , energy and money protecting the world from the mission of Islamic World Dominance . Things like protecting Israels legal right to exist . Helping the vicims of the Islamic genocide ( cleansing) in Sudan . The attempts at keeping fundamentalist Muslims from flying Passenger Jets into non military buidings . And so on . This money could be so much better spent on providing healthcare and food and education for those needy people . And also for things like DNA research and space exploration . Needing to spend time on things as silly as the name of a Teddy Bear is sad and stupid .

I wonder how long it will take them to start reporting this answer ?

I can see this on both sides. I am a "Beliver" I am not anyone who can judge. I would not want anyone to "think" I am underminding them when I talk about my beliefs. However we have to be VERY carefull what we do let into our hearts and minds. The Holy Bible says that the devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking to devour. Obviously anyone with the gift of common sence knows that that is not literal. He does it thru false teachings thru man. It also says gaurd your hearts and minds as to not be mislead. You don't have to be a Bible Thumping person to know you have a body, mind, and spirit. Ask for the truth and it shall be given to you. Knock at the door and it shall be opened. It is a "Gift" to know these things not something to make me feel like I have to shove anything down anyone's throat. You HAVE to use discernment if you do not.......I'm not sure what to tell you. Seek and you shall find.

** I do NOT see were "he" decided to call anyone foolish. It is a quote from the Holy Bible. There is another that says "Speak by Scripture the "Word of God" NEVER comes back void. The quoting of scripture often really upsets ppl. That is because it is stirring in them! It will not come back void. Read it again slowly with a open heart nobody called you a fool. It says PPL "Like yourself" think that the "Spirit of God is foolishness" and obviously you do to some degree. So, there you go see there is Truth in the word!

The power of life and death are in the tounge use it carefully.

(After all God did "SPEAK" the world into excistence" Something to think about :)

They're the major portion of what started me on the road to total disblief in religion and anything but the most minimal image of God. Depending on my mood, sometimes I don't even have that. I love people but I also hate them for loving their personal image of God more than they do other people. Being right seems to be more important than peace.

    Define fundamentalists.

Many people would define me as a fundamentalist. Of course, I generally consider analysis of God's laws and what God's intention was about them to be above plain following of the law. For instance, from a legalistic point of view, the law "Thou shalt not bear false witness." is not breakable. If you you have to lie to protect somebody, you let them get hurt, because it would be a sin to lie.

    I don't like that.

wow. i wish you stated to her that Rowling is amazingly religious, and the books have some super religious undertones or maybe super metaphors on the thank you to existence a greater proper existence. If something that has as many stable morals as Harry Potter is satanic, than so are all those different thoughts approximately magic, like Cinderilla. I wager she hasn't even study them.

Yes, especially their views on how old the Earth is, Evolution, Stem Cell research, right to life, and religion in schools. The rest doesn't bother me as much.

Hun, you are not alone. That is the reason I live alone. They are sad people who will destroy their lives and others for faith in a book. Just try not to focus on it, let them be what they are, love them for other reasons, and respect their right to chose sadness. Eventually the whole fundamentalism thing will go away.

Extreme fundamentalists of just about any stripe scare the heck out of me. It is one thing to be devout and follow your faith. It is another thing to hate, insult, persecute, or even kill those who don't believe the same things you do.
