quarter bath?? your opinion?? bad use of space????

i have a smaller house with no bath rm on the 1st floor &1 on the 2nd, well its a inconveinence especially to guests-so i was going to add a half bath on 1st fl- problem is theres only a small space that i could easily sacrafice- and my plan would include a really small sink, i planned on custom making the sink (out of tile and mounting faucet into wall) to fit the spot since there's no average sink that would fit.

Then recently i came across advertisements in my area for homes that had quater baths.

i never heard of these but discovered they are just toilet rms w/ no sink.

Although i never thought of not adding a sink- now that i looked at these really nice houses with a toilet only rm, im questioning how appealing is it?

i just want to know peoples opinion-if you looked to purchase a starter style house(1500 sq ft)that only had 1 bathroom upstairs, would it be appealing or appauling to have a small toilet rm on the 1st fl? or will the avg person see this is a bad use of space?

I think most ppl want a sink to wash their hands after they use the toilet.

However, if it would meet your needs and you are doing the work your self it could be OK if the cost is not too bad.

In other words , you would not loose money on it when you sell or gain money either.

I saw a show with a really small toilet room like you are planning , but they had a small airline type sink and it looked fine.

I would keep looking for a really small sink or you are going to need a hand sanitizer dispenser on the wall at the very least.

I wouldn't recommend a 1/4 bath. (This is something I've never heard of.) One, your guests will be uncomfortable having to go somewhere else to wash their hands. I'm guessing the nearest sink is in the kitchen. Two, it could really hurt the sale of your house in the future, possibly even more than no bathroom on the main.

I suggest going to the largest plumbing supplier in your area & inquire about tiny sinks. A wall hung basin just big enough to rinse your hands. I'm sure they will be able to show you a couple of options. Choose your faucet once you have decided on the basin. Keep in mind that a faucet that comes out from the wall requires the water lines to run up inside the wall. You will still have the drain below the sink.

A functional 1/2 bath, no matter how tiny, will be a huge bonus when the time comes to list your home.

    Good luck with your project.

  • I just purchased a house ,with 1 bathroom It's kind of small so I will be adding on a 3/4 bath

But I would not like a toilet room .

That does not sound right at all, it will look like a toilet in a closet.

and not sanitary at all , so you go potty and not wash your hands "Gross" that is nasty.

I would put in a sink any kind of a sink is a lot better then no sink at all

I would see about using some space from an jointing room.

Or just bumping out a wall to add a bathroom.

one of my bedrooms has 3 windows in it I'm going to replace one of the window as a door way into a small bathroom I'm going to add on.

As a resent house hunter I would see a toilet room as an unfinished project , no sink that would be just nuts

Maybe this will help thy have a small corner wall mount sink and it's only 14.99

where would you wash your hands after using the toilet? Are you going to spread germs all over the house while walking to the sink to wash your hands? It sounds like a bad idea to me.
