Manila Airport to Makati?

Heading to Manila around mid July. My flight gets in around 7:30 pm on a Saturday. On the Hotel bookings i see it states its a 45min drive from the airport but it only 8km. I no Manila has a reputation for having bad traffic but even on a saturday night is it likely it take that long the drive.

The other thing I will be returning back to Manila after my time in the Philippines, are there any decent hotels closer to the airport around 3000 to 3500p a night.

Update:

G'day Johny

Yes it my second visit this year but last time flew into Cebu which form what i hear much less populated so unsure how much more bussy Manila will be. I bet more busy than here Auckland. I spend most my time in Mindanao but have few things to sought out with imirgration this time so need to be closer to my embasey for my partner.

Keep the good replies coming

NAIA is located ca. 7 km south of the main tourist area Ermita/Malate and ca. 7 km of the main business area Makati.

The Manila Domestic airport is ca. 3 km away from NAIA.

The Centennial Airport is located between NAIA and the Domestic airport at ca. 1 km east of NAIA.

However, to get from one airport to another is expressed in time rather than in kilometers, due to permanent traffic congestion. To get from International Terminal 1 or 2 to Manila Domestic Terminal can take up to one (1) hour !

It is therefore recommend at least one (1) hour time allowance

    Manila Airport Hotel

is conveniently located within the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Complex, right across from the largest casino in the country, Casino Filipino. There is plenty of parking in the Hotel's guarded parking lot right in front of the hotel and adjacent to Terminal One.

It is a short drive away from shopping centers in Alabang, Sucat, Southmall, Filinvest and SM Mall of Asia, and a mere twenty minutes away from the central business district of Makati City.

You can ride the bus or get a cab from the airport (NAIA) to get to Makati. Once outside the, walk a little to the sideroad and you will see buses heading toward Fairview. You can take that bus and get off at Ayala or Buendia, depending on where in Makati you would want to go.

With 3,000 to 3,500 pesos a night, you can stay in a rather decent hotel near the airport. There are no hotels walking distance to the airport though. My recommendation is the Heritage Hotel at the end of EDSA in Pasay. The bus to Makati I was talking about passes by this hotel. Check this site to see this hotel: http://www.travelmart.net/philippines-pasay/herita... Also, another one is Traders Hotel. Check this site: http://www.virtualtourist.com/hotels/Asia/Philippi... There are other hotels that offer airport transfers so staying a little far from the hotel is not that big a problem.

Yes, Saturday nights can have a little slow traffic especially along EDSA. To get to Makati faster, get a cab as it can opt not to take heavy traffic routes.

Yeah mate traffic is bad just about everywhere in Manila. You may think its only 8km but their idea of an adequate traffic system isn't up to scratch compared to western standards, speed signs don't exist, traffic lights are hard to come by and they don't indicate at all. They have this little unique system of beeping the horn when they rush past another car so they are less likely to collide with one another. Works most of the time. As for the hotels in Makati just ask your travel agent and they'll do all the hard work for you. Just be sure to get a pretty travel consultant so it'll make the wait alittle more bearable. Good luck to you, really picked a great place to visit.

Both Catch the waves and Kemjiu are right. why? because it would depend on traffic. Usually during rush hours 4-8PM and 7-10AM traffic is heavy so instead of a 30 minute taxi ride it becomes 40-50 minutes. not too mention, airport taxis charge higher than normal taxis. However, it is safer to use airport taxis especially for foreigners. just make sure you have 500 pesos with you to be safe. If you're arriving at very late hours like 11PM-3PM your taxi ride would be cheaper. around 300max.

Traffic can indeed be that bad on a Saturday night. See, we like to make the most of the weekend, and that usually means going out with the gang.

Now, as for a hotel close to the airport, there's always this place --> http://airporthotelmanila.com/room_rates.html

It's within your budget. But as I've never stayed there, I can't tell you if it is, in fact, "decent". (Pictures on the website looked okay though... But then... you can't always trust those!)

Anyway, enjoy your trip, and good luck!
