Treating acne, adding tea tree oil to a 3-step treatment kit - good idea?

For almost two weeks, I have been using AcneFree 3-step treatment, because Googling shows that it's better, and it's more accessible, while ProActiv is only available through ordering and shipping. I can't honestly say it's too effective.

Just minutes ago, my mom came back with a tiny bottle of tea tree oil. It should be used on that "hole" after the spots get properly squeezed.

Is it a good idea to use the two treatments at the same time?

Just some details on what AcneFree contains.

AcneFree Renewing Toner (Step 2):

Removes dead skin cells and excess oils to keep pores clean.

SD Alcohol 40, 'Witch Hazel', Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Polysorbate 20, PPG-20 Methyl Glucose Ether, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), MSM, Lactic Acid, Chamonilla Recuita Extract, Sodium Borate, Methylisothiazolinone, Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), Copper PCA, Disodium EDTA, Menzethonium Chlorate

Step 3: BP Liquid

Penetrates pores to dry up blackhead blemishes and existing acne

3.7% Benzoyl Peroxide

Update:

I left step one out because I didn't think it would be that important for details. It's basically the apply and rinse cleaner.

Step 1

Purifying Cleanser

This oil-free formula gently exfoliates dead skin cells and impurities to cleanse away dirt and remove oil that can clog pores. Leaves the skin feeling fresh and clean.

Water, Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Sorbitol, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Oleamidopropyl Betaine, Lauramide DEA, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, NaCl (salt. just salt), Panthenol, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA

I have inverted pores, so Benzoyl Peroxide made my acne worse. Pro-Activ didn't help either.

The 3 step treatment system I personally found that worked for me is called Zap it! by a company called Melaleuca and it includes T-Tree oil; no BP. It is one of those mail order products, BUT it works for me and you couldn't pay me to go back to having acne.

Anyway... that said, I doubt that adding T-tree oil would hurt, it's naturally anti-biotic and it's said to help prevent scarring.

Btw, you didn't say what step 1 is.

    NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL

1/ Never, ever touch your face.

2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.

3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal

4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.

Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.

5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.

6/ Do this for 90 days.

7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a

nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

The secret is never to touch the spots

Emily's Oils & Essentials offers some proprietary blends for acne prone skin. You can use the interactive search to find oils to make your own blend as well. There are more essential oils and base materials to consider than just Lavender or Tea Tree. The reason for the break outs should be considered as well, of course. Scarring, hormonal, cellular turnover, high sebum production???
