problem with xbox 360?

my son got the xbox 360 in april and it was working fine yesterday. go to switch it on this morning and it doesn't seem to work. the orange light is on (on the box connecting the wires) but when he presses the button on the xbox itself it doesn't light up. we have changed plug sockets and switched it on and off but it still isn't coming on. i have checked to see if all the wires are fitted in correctly. anyone else have this same problem? any help will be appreciated.

Update:

thanks for the answers, have tried switiching it on with the controller but nothing happens!

Try using the controller to start it up. Maybe it is something with the button itself. Also, ask if he noticed anything odd the last time that he played, i.e. was there any change in gameplay, did the main (power button), light turn red (known in the XBox world as the ring of death), or anything else of that nature. If the orange light is on in the transformer, the little device connected to the power cord, then you are getting power. If nothing works, you may have to send it back to Microsoft for repairs.

first remove the xbox face plate. you should see the place where the button initially was on the plate.now you will see an opening showing a circuit board .in the centre you should see a circular silver color button.press that. this is the switch which turns it on. if it doesnt work. then you will have to send for repair.make sure the microsoft seal is not damaged during the process.also try out quix advice

you will get a instant adapter for the xbox, yet that's high priced (around a hundred$). yet an decision decision, is connecting a computer to the xbox and utilising it as a instant adapter with ICS (internet connection sharing) - seek youtube for it in case you have an activity in that. yet an decision decision would be utilising a change, that's style of a "station" for the cable, the place you may connect yet another cable from it on your pc, yet buying an prolonged ethernet cable is extra elementary - you will get one in any widespread pc / gamers shop.

Send it to Microsoft if it doesn't work when you try starting it with the controller. they'll take about a week to fix it and send it back depending on where you live

contact microsoft and see what they say

they will probably want you to send it to thm for a replacement or maybe it can be repaired
