"White Americans no longer a majority by 2042" ??

I don't care what the skin color of my fellow Americans is - I just want my fellow countrymen to share my values.

I think that in the overwhelming majority of cases, businesses hire who will make them the most money, regardless of color. affirmative action is therefore not necessary. Educating everyone so they can compete in the marketplace is.

I don't know, but probably not. Affirmative Action was started because white people were entrenched in management positions in businesses, not because they were a majority. People doing the hiring were either overtly or subconsciously racist enough to give positions to other white people, even when black candidates were as qualified, or even slightly more qualified, for the job. Therefore, I believe Affirmative Action will continue until the demographics of employees in management positions is the same as the demographics of the entire population. So, if whites become a minority in 2042 but still hold 75% of all management positions, I foresee Affirmative Action continuing.

Affirmative Action works the way it does because of majority v. Minority in the work place, not just population. But if whites do become a minority in the work place they will get affirmative action as well. But I think by 2042 affirmative action will be done away with anyways.

FIRST, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY that Hispanic people are white also. My dad is white and from the ATLANTA, GA and my mom is a white Hispanic from Cuba. I guess you could say I am half hispanic, but ALL white. Being Hispanic is like being American, there is North America and South America, there are white people that live in the USA and black people, there are WHITE HISPANICS (with olive skin who get tans very easily like me) and MULATTO HISPANICS who have great great... grand parents LONG dead LONG ago that mixed with black/white people.

Barak Obama is more like a Mulatto Hispanic than he is a Black guy. I don't really see a black guy when I look at him, mixed mulato is all I really think.

I actually had to spend almost an hour with my dad and brother to convince my own 16 year old 4th cousin, (born in the usa with hispanic Cuban parents) THAT she is a white girl, a white hispanic girl. Sure she has dark brown hair and olive skin that has obviously got tanned a lot from going to the beach a lot in Florida, but so what, she is still a white girl. She kept on going on that she didn't think of herself as being white. Oh well, that's what she gets from being in a STUPID BRAIN WASHING SCHOOL that teaches everyone that HISPANIC is a race, WHICH ITS NOT!!!!

SOO, if you go by what I say and take OUT the white hispanic part of that Democrat Liberal calculation of them being in the minority AND PUT THEM in the majority, then that 2042 white % just went up a whole LOT from 46% HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

The story is not bull. Affirmative action won't be given to white folks. The story goes that if whites had been better people, minorities today wouldn't be socially and economically disadvantaged. Until values change and self-reliance is embraced, the situation is likely to be the same in 2042. The government can't force someone to be motivated to achieve.

whites will be less than all others combined, but by no means a minority. still, i do think affirmative action had it's day. filling quotas doesn't work.

Well, if a majority of non-whites in the general population were also reflected by a majority of non-whites in Congress, in professional positions, and in other positions of power, then I think it would be time to get rid of affirmative action. Whether that will happen is something we will have to wait and see about.

During apartheid, whites made up only 5% of the population of South Africa. I don't think that the fact that whites were in a minority meant that South Africa's white rulers were entitled to affirmative action. There is no necessary relationship between having a majority of the population and having a majority of the power.

Where I live, whites are a minority now. I've heard that because blond hair and blue eyes are recessive, that kids with that combination are becoming increasingly rare. I think this country is a melting pot and that is a good thing. If we can get away from separating people based on their ethnic background for things like affirmative action, then maybe we can make some progress toward treating people with respect and equality.

That statistic is very misleading because the white population will actually still be the majority race. That statistic lumps all minorities together. The white population will not outnumber ALL minority groups in 2042 but the white population will still be the individual greatest population among all races. It's still crazy that the hispanic population is growing so fast due to immigration.

Not true. In the very article it states:

"By 2050, whites will make up 46 percent of the population and blacks will make up 15 percent, a relatively small increase from today. Hispanics, who make up about 15 percent of the population today, will account for 30 percent in 2050, according to the new projections."

46 percent is always greater than 15 percent and 30 percent. As far as ethnic groups are concerned, the largest aka majority of Americans will still be white. I do not care either way as being white is not a crime.
