What is the call for this play?

Its the last play of the 1st half. Team A has the ball on their own 1 yard line so the QB can't take a knee. At the snap, Team B blitzes and tackles the QB in the end zone for a safety. Now what happens? The clock has run out.

1. Is it just the end of the half? or,

2. Does there have to be another play were Team A kicks to Team B?

3. Is it carried over to the 2nd half?

I suspect it just the end of the half, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

    1. end of the half award team b 2 points. It doesnt carry over. you just run out of time. purpose of the game is to gain advantage WITHIN the time restraints.

2 points (safety) is awarded to Team B and because their is no time left on the clock, the half ends. A safety punt cannot happen because it'll cause time to run off the clock and no time remains therefore the half is over.

  • Refs will review the play and see if there is any time on the clock for a kickoff.........otherwise they receive two points and the half is over

The team with the safety gets to recieve the special kick, and then halftime.

1 and 3 are the same explanation but you're right. They just go to the 2nd half.
