Why are we still in South Korea?
Everyone is so concerned about soldiers in Irag and we should be. Why is no one looking at all the soldiers in South Korea? We have been there for over 50 years, if their own countryman cannot defend themselves then learn to speak Chinese and bring our soldiers home.
I understand the implications of us leaving but perhaps we can train the local army and leave our weapons behind. I am just saying that we cannot police the entire world and those that are not willing to protect themselves. It has been over 50 years now and no end in sight.

Military positioning. South Korea is home to the military bases to an entire region in Asia. The United States has military posts in more countries than you would guess. If the United States were to withdraw from many of these countries it would cause turmoil. Many of the United States posts are peace keeping posts.
Furthermore, North Korea strongly believes in a unified country, given the opportunity they would gladly reclaim South Korea. China is one of North Korea's biggest allies and would have no problem supplying North Korea's military to do so. China would love to have the United States out of the region. The enemy of your enemy is your friend. As China becomes more hostile towards the United States, the relationship between the United States and India is becoming stronger.
Your argument is heavily flawed. Just because they can't defend themselves, nobody should stand up for them? That is similiar to proposing that if a woman can't fight off a rapist then she might as well become a prostitute.

Actually that's what I'm also wondering about.
Koreans don't need you and also ask "Why are the US army still in Korea?"
About soldiers in Iraq, Iraq is the most dangerous place in all around the world you have to be concerned naturally. But Korea, it's just that you live in the safetest country in the world. I don't think they work so hard. you are not going to die by gun on the street or anything. just earn money for your school and family doing some easy work. Sorry this is what I see most of the time.

I spent 3 years there as a soldier. We are there for North Korea and China. Simply said. They are both still threats. Not so much North Korea, they are more of a nuisance, but China is a real threat.

Why not protect a country instead of blowing one up?
Also abandoning SK would allow the NK's to steam roller them with the help of the Chineese, the only reason they havent till now is because the US is there with its nukes SK has no nukes of its own and due to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty is not allowed to develope them. But I am glad to see you will willingly abandon your allies to to a life of opression.
