Is it worth taking a day trip to L.A. area from vegas?

My wife and I are going to vegas in July for 5 days and was wondering if it would be worth taking a day trip to beverly hills and los angeles or would it be a waste of time. I wasn't sure how great it is or if its really worth the drive and renting a car about $80 for the day plus gas, etc... The main reason I was considering it is b/c we live in georgia and have never seen the west coast or pacific ocean. Thanks for any input.

I would not recommend it since it will take about 5 hours to get to the LA area and there is just too many things you would like to see and do that, a day is no enough. For you have many locations and non of them are really close so you have to pick and choose what you want to see. If you are willing to take the 5 hour trip then I would say go to Beverly hills and take sunset blvd. it will take you straight to the PCH (pacific coast hwy) where most of the movies are shot and then you go back to vegas. To me it is not worth it but for a first timer it would be cool experience.

Las Vegas is the most fascinating and amusing town on the planet and with hotelbye you will see out more. Nowhere otherwise on the planet you will find a town that has all of the journey amenities that only a total resort destination can offer: luxurious casino accommodations, fine eating, great live activity and state-of-the art conference and trade display facilities. Las Vegas happens to be a magnificent town and exactly what you'd expect from a world-class metropolis, and more, is right here for the journey pleasure. One of the areas you should visit in Las Vegas could be the Fremont Street, a pedestrian area with all sorts of special sites.

It will take you about 4 hours to drive each way granted you dont run into any traffic on the way there and back. No reason to do that if you are going to vegas why not get the best of your vegas trip? Plenty of stuff to do in vegas, go to LA on a different trip. Besides there really isnt that much to do in beverly hills, way overrated in my opinion.

Definitely Las Vegas. I've visited both cities. There's really nothing special to do in LA except for (unless it's cold) going to the beaches. Las Vegas is a totally different world, like a Disneyland with gambling, smoking and booze. I've also been in San Francisco, that city is not as fun as LV but is funner than LA. It's surrounded by water on 3 sides and a national forest on the fourth side; so it's kind of in its own universe. The streets are so steep in places that the sidewalks turn into stairs.

There is no such thing as a driving day trip to CA; you would need to fly. And that would take an entire day from Vegas. The drive is about five-six hours each way!

Why not have a connecting flight from Vegas to LA and shorten the Vegas trip? Then you fly home directly from LA after time there?

You won't make it in a day trip; LA is like 360 miles away from Vegas so even with the high speed limits in the desert you're looking at a 5-hour trip just to get there.

To there and back is about 10 hours of drive time. Not much time to look around. Not worth a day trip. If you made it a two day trip then it might be worth it.

Only if you flew. Driving would take too long for a day trip. Especially since you probably will be drinking and all.

The cost of the rental car and gas wont be much different then two plane tickets.

best way is to take a plane to Ontario.

like 85 dollars. rent a car and drive 2 hours to LA>

I live in Las VEgas and that is the most efficient way to do this

No way!! It would take at least 5 hours to get there, plus there is SO much to see in L.A! Plus, traffic is horrible in the city. It would be best to take a seperate vacation to Cali.
