I'm looking for good Japanese movies to add to my DVD collection?
I really enjoy Japanese movies... So far I have
Seven Samurai,
Samurai Banners,
Red Beard,
Kagemusha,
Samurai resurrection,
Death Trance,
last year's NHK's Fuurin Kazan,
and I'd like to get TBS's Mr. Brain when they release it.
I have 8 seasons worth of the Bleach: the rock musical stage show on DVD... and of course various animes.
are there any other movies you could recommend... Were there any other movies done about Takeda Shingen, Yamamoto kansuke or Uesugi Kenshin?
thanks in advance!
(I am more into Samurai movies rather than horror)

I love those samurai/wuxia movies.
Japanese -
Heaven and Earth (the main character Kagetora is known as Uesugi Kenshin and is battling against Takeda Shingen)
Azumi
Azumi 2: Death or Love
Dororo
Shinobi: Heart Under Blade
Zatoichi
Legend of the Eight Samurai
The Princess Blade
Ran (1985)
The Twilight Samurai
When the Last Sword Is Drawn
Also try these Korean and Chinese ones, trust me, they're on the same level as the Japanese ones.
Korean -
Shadowless sword
Bichunmoo
Chinese/Hong Kong -
Three Kingdoms:Resurrection of the Dragon
The restless
Storm Rider
Wind and Cloud Storm Riders
Legend of Zu
Musa the warrior
Hero
House of flying daggers
Crouching tiger, hidden dragon
The myth
Jade warrior
The banquet
The promise
Seven swords
Curse of the golden flower
An Empress and the Warriors
P.S. Do you know if they came out with another movie continuing after Death Trance coz the ending was left a little hanging?
Have you tried watching the Japanese drama Musashi? It's about a legendary samurai swordsman .. reminds me of Rurouni Kenshin in the OVA's.

I've watched these movies and they are remakes of the actual movies made in Japan:
The Grudge
One Missed Call
These ones however are based on the Japanese
Shutter
They Wait
These are awesome movies and I happen to find Japanese horror movies really scary.

Try other Kurosawa-- High and Low is my favorite of his (followed by Seven Samurai), then Rashomon. Throne of Blood by Kurosawa is also excellent, and Ran.
Other than Kurosawa: what about Harakiri by Masaki Kobayashi -- my favorite Samurai film of all time.
