  • Broken phone and texts?

I broke my phone recently. (Verizon) I could hear it start, but the screen remains off. I had pics of my nieces and nephews I didn't want strangers to have (including texts my Bros sent me of the kids) and I know I have to send the phone back when the replacement came in. So I went to Google device manager as directed and hit "enable lock and erase". I filed a claim and activated my replacement phone today. I got texts that I had deleted off the old phone a week before it broke, and texts that came in while I had no phone. So does that old phone still have texts on it?

  • Which should I get... Wide angle or Macro lens?

My brother is turning the big 4 - 0 and I was going to get him a lens for his camera because he really loves taking picture. He takes pictures of EVERYTHING. From a million different pics of the sunset to a tiny little bug crawling on a leaf. He has a canon camera... I have to double check with our other sibling what kind, because he has the same one... I THINK it's a EOS 60D

Anyway. I want to get him a lens for the camera... but I don't know which would be better. A wide angle or a macro lens.

As photographers... if you had to choose your first lens, which one would you get? Wide angle or macro?

  • the manga "Tactics" by Sakura Kinoshita?

I have started reading the manga... only up to volume 3 right now. I have been looking around... the only thing I can see is that the manga is "ongoing" but the last reported volume came out in 2008. Did it end, or did the mangaka just abandon the series, or what is going on?

  • Dogs: To Dental or not to dental?

I have a dog who needs a dental according to the vet. (his teeth are pretty bad and brushing alone doesn't seem to help).

But I'm hesitant. When he was a puppy and was neutered, his blood pressure dropped in the middle of surgery. So when he had another procedure that required being put out, they had to take preventative measures just in case.

After moving recently, I have a new vet. She's a good vet... my dog was vomiting blood one day out of nowhere and she diagnosed him with Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE), a rare and potentially life threatening disease that vets don't know much about except a treatment that seems to help if caught quick enough. No one knows what exactly brings it on, (Genetics, diet, ect) however some believe it can be caused by stress (which seems to be the contributing factor in each of his episodes)

So now he's due for a dental. but the worry is being put under, and his HGE. However, I hear that there are health risks for not getting dentals, like heart disease.

So now the question I have to decide... to dental or not to dental... which is riskier?

  • Using Drano in sink after clog... safe to drink the tap water?

So, my mom clogged the kitchen sink somehow. None of the water would drain. She bought a small plunger and got it to drain and added Drano. After 15 minutes as it says, she tested it and it all worked fine.

Is it safe to use the tap water from the same sink the drano was poured down? I sometimes use it to give water to my dogs when there is no bottled water available.

  • Should I wear a knee brace or let it be?

I hurt my knee during a jog... not sure how... it's just that every step I took it hurt a little more than the previous step till I had to quit. This morning my knee is a swollen and there's a bruise. I didn't fall or knock it so I think I stepped wrong and twisted it.

I was told it was a bad idea to wear a knee brace if you injured the knee... that I should use one after it heals to protect it from re-injury when jogging.

but it hurts like a witch. Should I get a knee brace now or wait?

  • Seriously bad back - what can be done?

a few days ago I was lifting bricks to use to prop up my out door Christmas trees (it was in the 60's couldn't resist getting the outdoor decorations done now)

My back hurt the next day, when my mom ran over a pot hole that sent the car and everything in it flying and I wrenched my back even worse.

Now I can barely straighten up.

If anyone watches Anime... I'm walking like the 'Death Note' character L.

I've tried a hard core muscle relaxor my doctor gave me which just made me sleep, then I tried hydrocodone which just made me feel funky and I'll never take it again.

is there anything I can do to relieve the pain so I can walk normally? I can't sleep at night. I've tried my bed but I think it's too soft, I've tried sleeping on a flat back recliner, I've tried sleeping on the couch with pillows behind my back. I just can't do it anymore.

  • Are there natural deer tick deterrants?

I just bought a new house in a different state, and there are a LOT of deer ticks. My brother drove up and bug bombed it before I got there, and it killed the majority of bugs in the house and attached garage, so thankfully I don't have ticks in my house, yet.

But as is their way, there is a new army of deer ticks crawling up the siding, up the deck, all over the yard.

Is there a way to deter deer ticks that is safe for a house with pets to keep them away or at least in less numbers?

also, before anyone recommends it, my dogs are getting monthly preventatives and they work great... the only tick I saw on my dog was a dead one. (Surprisingly they haven't had any ticks since we moved here. Knock on wood.)

  • The water in my new house smells like sulfer/iron?

I just bought a new house, it's a new construction. The water was irony when I first bought it, and when you turned on the shower, it had a sulfer - iron like smell. When you wash your hands your hands smell rusty. It's gross.

I used iron out which got rid of the red color in the toilets... but what do I do for the stinky water in the shower and sinks? Is there something you can do to get rid of the odor?

  • 2012 and the mayans...?

ok I've been doing research so I can get a friend to chillax about 2012. (she buys into it completely... even her husband can't talk her out of it.)

So I went to prove to her it's a bunch of bunk. I can't find ANYWHERE where the MAYANS predicted the end of the world.

I've found a bunch of schlubs who have claimed that's what they say, but I see no proof other than their own word (which is not exactly reliable.) they're the type of people who say "I predicted 9/11" AFTER it happened. well duh, so did I then.

some make up predictions that have supposedly come true (kind of how new quatrains from nostradamus constantly pop up to explain major events/disasters that nostradamus never actually wrote.)

    anyhoo.

I decided to research further into these mysterious ancient mayans. If they predicted the end of the world down to the last second... they MUST have made other predictions that have come true.

I can't find a single thing attributed to ancient mayans except for 2012, and I can't find proof that they actually said anything about 2012 other than the calander ends (and probably rolls into the next one) in that year. Everything else is what OTHERS are saying they BELIEVE it means.

can anyone else give me actual examples, with actual documented evidence that the Mayans predicted 2012, or that they predicted anything at any time?

  • Painting with Acrylics?

I did my first acrylic painting on a canvas... it came out really nice, but my friend said i should always paint the sies too... (it's one of those traditional wood framed ones.)

I thought I could still have it framed with a fancy frame but she said this is the type that's ready to hang...

Do you paint all the sides and then hang it? or can you still frame a ready to hang canvas?

the canvas is like this>> http://barrattsofficepro.com/photos/custom/canvas....

  • help me decide between 2 houses please!! ASAP!!?

I have two houses I'm looking at right now with my mom, and I can't decide between the two, but it is down to these two (after months of searching.)

    House #1.

Nice kitchen, nice dining room, small but usable living room, big bedroom with spa bath, 3 very small rooms upstairs with a bathroom large finished basement.

however, because of phsyical limitations, I'd need to add a second bedroom/bathroom on the main floor, which is estimated at $60,000 to carpet, tile, furniturize and such... the basement underneath would be unfinished.

The carpeting is kind of eh, so it would eventually have to be removed and changed at my cost... but it comes with appliances.

    ------------

The other house is a new construction. Up to code, hardwoord floors being installed throughout except in the bedrooms (carpeting/flooring will be our option.)

There are 2 bedrooms upstairs with 2 bathrooms, the kitchen/dining room and living room would basically be combined into one... one of the upstairs bedrooms can be turned into a small/medium sitting room with a futon bed/couch for guests if necessary

Downstairs I'd have my own apartment area, a computer room that can be turned into a spare bedroom with either a full sized bed or a pull out futon.. one room would be a sitting room that can also be turned into a spare bed for company... and then the large bedroom with a bathroom.

It would have privacy, so I can still have my own company without feeling like I'm imposing on my mom's living area.

the house doesn't come with appliances, and the basement flooring is my responsibility as would landscaping.

We're thinking with everything it would be an out of pocket expense of $40,000.

so for the one house we have guest specific rooms, a rec room downstairs and for $60+ I'd be gaining a bedroom on a bedroom and bathroom.

The other house we'd have to improvise for guests/living space, but I'd have an apartment downstairs, and it would be less out of pocket to buy appliances and furnishings with flooring...

but of course I'd have to give up the two spa baths the other houses came with. lol.

so I'm really torn. Any advice
