2003 Toyota Camry check engine light came on, but turned off next day. What to do?

I want to know if this is could be an electrical issue, or if something could be wrong with my engine. I'm sure it could be anything, but I'm hoping someone out there has had a similar experience as I did.

This is not unusual especially among Toyota Camry owners. You might have just filled up on gas after getting close to an almost empty tank. What may have occurred is the vacuum that you experience when you first open the gas filler cap and some air may have escaped. This sends a message to the computer of an "abnormality" and sends a signal to the sensors and triggers a check engine light.

Source(s): After spending several years in the automotive industry, this incident is quite common among Toyota Camry owners or for Toyota owners in general. Nothing serious and nothing to be worried about. It is simply how the sensors work to notify the operator ( driver ) that the gas cap needs tightening after refueling.

What a coincidence.. I also have a 99 4cyl Camry and the engine light won't go off and I have been unable to find the problem....I believe it is something in the fuel vapor absorption cannister that connects to the fuel tank...My Camry has 150,000 miles and has never given me any problems. I took it to the dealer last year to look at when I had an inspection sticker due, He gave me a new inspection sticker and told me not to worry about the light, he couldn't seem to figure out how to fix it..

go get the code read that the light set off, it will be recorded on the computer and will tell you what system the fault is in.
