Where in U.S. law does it state that our government has a responsibility for our national defense?

Specifically where in the Constitution?

Update:

If there is one? This is a serious question. I can't find any information on the internet.

    one of the duties specifically delegated to the Federal Government is to "Provide for the common defense".

    Preamble of the Constitution.

    Article 1 - The Legislative Branch

    Section 8 - Powers of Congress

    The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

    To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

    To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

    To provide and maintain a Navy;

    To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

    To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

    To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

    it's in the Preamble: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

    That is a passing mention.

    In section 8, you'll find as much detail as they go into.

    Read the U.S. Constitution. ALL of it. You obviously haven't EVER read it, or you'd be able to answer your own question.

    well technically they have the responsiblility of setting up the defense and as we are responsible on paying taxes and voting how it should happen. power to the people.
