What is the origin of the expression "Rub down with a Sporting Life", please?
My colleague mentioned this expression, which I had not heard of before. I googled it, asked Google in many different ways.... origin, meaning etc etc, Googled it on its own... there are many references of it, many people who have used the term in their blog but absolutely no reference as to what it means.
If anyone can help, I would be very grateful, please!!! :-D
Thankyou :-)

It is a term used in an ironic or slightly comic sense about someone who perhaps never takes exercise or is very loathe to do so.Referring to such a person one might say,"the nearest he comes to physical exertion is a quick rub down with a sporting life."(The sporting LIfe referred to being a sports magazine publication)
