Can somebody please help answer this question?

What is this law of nature called?

Thank you for clicking on my question, I highly appreciate your time and kindness to answer my question.

Here is the question:

In our nature, when a bird or a being is born or obtained some sort of deformity, cripple, lose of something apparent, lack of skill, ability in an aspect, or even became an abnormal nature, that particular life being may develop a higher than average development on its other senses or abilities, or skills. For example, a crippled bird who is the leader of a flock. An elephant with a broken tusk and gory scars becoming leader of the herd. This may be true in some case of humans too, for example autistic children who are savant.

Someone who did some research in this and put a thesis, law or a theorm or something to that effect. What is that law or thesis called? And by whom.

Thank you once again. Your answers and time are highly appreciated.

[My words are not exact definition, but they describe the idea to a certain extend.]

it's understandable how this question can be confused with the concept of the survival of the fittest as described in the theory of evolution by charles darwin, but this isn't it. survival of the fittest simply implies the success in reproduction not physical prowess (or lack thereof) or hierarchy; in this question reproduction is not relevant.

ironically, it's called savant syndrome (autistic savant should have been a clue lol) put forward by darold treffert.

123twilightfan is kinda right - Survival of the fittest does explain it to some extent. An elephant with a broken tusk and many gory scars is a survivor, so it has survived battles where other (less fit) specimens haven't.

In the case of autistic savants the same applies, some people may be attracted to the extreme skill shown by these individuals and thus perpetuate the phenotype.

Apart from that, I really don't know I'm afraid, I haven't come across any other theories relating to this kind of thing.

Where did you hear of this theory? Can you go back to the source and find out the name of the author or the title of the theorem?

Well, YOU ARE WRONG. There is no law/theorem. Take a look at the examples you have provided us. To my understanding of what you've presented to us, the likelihoods of these "abnormalities" are minimal, obscure. Sure, I know that it happens, but the lack of substantiality within nature, the lack of prominence within nature, would not make it viable AT ALL to be a theorem or a law. The frequency upon which these events occur are so minimal that the question you are proposing is merely an OBSERVATION, nothing more substantial.

And yes, the last example you provided is Savant Syndrome, but the observation you are attempting to assert (which seems like something along the lines of... nature sometimes gives organisms special abilities despite the odds that it should happen) is not encompassed in the Syndrome and is not a projected law or theory. At best, it is a mere observation, nothing more.

Also, your elephant example is faulty: a scarred elephant does not necessarily imply that it is weak; the elephant can be the dominate physically, just challenged quite frequent by other elephants.

Charles Darwin- Evolution, or Survival of the fittest
