Activities for elderly? :D?

My friends and I am going to an old folks home to do some volunteering and I have no idea as to what the elderly there would like to do :)

Help guys? Really appreciated :D THANKYOU :P

P.S. hmm, I don't think they can do rigorous physical activities. And I hope the activities don't cost too much >.<

Generally, a lot of assisted living/retirement centers will have an Activities department, and they will have lots of fun books/games/movies for the residents' entertainment. Some things we play a lot include bingo, black jack, dominoes. Bigger group activities can include ring toss (or horse shoe), the "parachute" game, kick ball (everyone sits in a circle and kicks a bouncy ball around). Be creative, you can even take some suggestions from the residents on what they like to do. Don't be afraid to take games you know and improvise it for the residents. Like beer pong, except fill the cups with water or even Ensure.

Hi, I am a care worker of the communtiy, so speaking from experiance different things seem to work to assist the elderly. Dominos and draughts are usually a good activity to fill their time as a lot of the elderly would have played this during their spare time themselves. I once set up a activity for time lines, where we sorted through pictures and life events (major ones like Marriage, Childrens Births, Grandchildren etc) then added through extra personal special days, i.e retirement days or anything else that is special to them. Choir singing, or entertainment ran by the elderly themselves is a great way to get people out of themselves, i.e if someone used to play the piano/guitar or anything. You could also organise for a local school/brownies/scouts to come in and put on a little show for them? Hope this helps. Good Luck x

THESE ARE SUPER FUN AND ALL ARE FREE:

it is a variation of hide and go seek, but much more fun!

hide the dentures is fun for starters, then work your way up to hide the fake eye, hide the eye glasses, hide the kleenex, hide the wheel chair, hide the bed pan, hide the toilet paper, hide the welfare check, hide the medicine, hide the food, hide the dentures, hide the light switches, hide their best friend in another wing for a few weeks and tell them they died, hide the blanket, hide the wall clocks, lock the bathroom, change the day of the week every few hours, switch the room number plates, call the family and tell them they died - this is the best, call the coroner - this one gets everyone talking, and these are just a few!!

if you want more, just e-mail me, please.
