Spilled sugared coffee over a closed laptop. Next steps?

Here's the thing. I have a habit of flipping bottles and catching it without letting it fall. However, this morning, things took on a different turn.

I slept less than six hours (I the kind of person who is happy with eight to ten hours of sleep).

I was about to work on my assignments on my laptop after I got my breakfast. My closed laptop (still on standby mode) was sitting on the table with a good distance from my Starbucks coffee (grande cafe latte). For some reason, I decided to take out my bottle of water as well. So I did my usual flip, but this time, it knocked my coffee over.

I suspect the damage is very little. The laptop was closed, so I managed to get it mostly wiped. off. However, the coffee might have entered my laptop through the ports on the left side left side of my laptop. That's where my power adapter goes, my internet, and my second screen goes.

When I turned it on, because I didn't think there would be any damage, the startup screen shows text that the computer couldn't determine the wattage from the power adapter.

What are the things I should do that might substitute bringing this to a repair shop?

I would use a mild cleaner with a q-tip for the area of the power adapter area so that it has a clean connection. As with most spills, if small in nature, once it has dried things tend to go back to normal. With coffee it might be sticky for a while! :)

while your laptop it off i have herd somewhere that you can clean the ports out with cotton buds a very light cleaner and compressed air but im not sure if this would help with coffee spill probly best to take it to a repair shop and get it checked out just in case. :)
