Can you run both windows 7 and apple's operating system on the same computer?

A friend at works daughter is in college for graphic design. She is told that the program used in based on the apple platform. Since Apple computers are so overpriced I was wondering if both Windows 7 and Mac's Snow Leopard system.

Update:

I was looking at the mini mac to get her through school at least. May be the best option for now. I guess with her dorm, tuition and books it leaves very little for high end machines. Last I heard they bought her a Sony laptop for the dorm.

Step 1: Buy a copy of Windows 7.

Check out our guide to different Windows 7 versions before dropping $220 on the rather unnecessary “Ultimate” package, and don’t forget you can grab a student copy for $30 with a .edu e-mail address.

Step 2: Upgrade to Boot Camp 3.1.

Since previous versions of Boot Camp didn’t explicitly support Windows 7, intrepid Mac owners who decided to install it beside Snow Leopard offered suffered from slow startup times, Magic Mouse malfunctions, and other glitches. Not anymore. The most recent version of Bootcamp includes full support for Windows 7, which should save you from all these headaches. Simply go to the Apple menu on your Mac and select Software Update, which will grab the latest version for you.

Step 3: Create a new partition for Windows 7.

Since Max OS X and Windows 7 can’t live happily together, you’ll need to create a new partition on your hard drive (or a separate partition on a separate hard drive) to install it. Think of it like putting up a new wall to split one bedroom into two so that a pretentious hipster and a stiff corporate dud can both live in peace.

Open Boot Camp Assistant by looking in the Utilities folder under Applications. The intuitive software will walk you through the process, just make sure to create an NTFS partition, since you won’t be able to install Windows 7 on any other type, and make it a minimum of 16GB. Keep in mind that you’ll want to install all your Windows software on the same partition, so plan accordingly.

    1) It's not legal to do that. You're violating OS X's terms of use if you try. It is possible, but it rarely works smoothly.

    2) The Macs are not overpriced for a graphics designer. The reason they are expensive is that they are high-end machines. The fact that they are high-end machines is why they work so well for graphics design. If you try installing OS X on a weaker computer, it won't run nearly as well. Also, the graphics applications like Photoshop will run very slowly. And it won't look as nice.

For example, the reason the 27" iMac costs $1800 is because it comes with a screen similar to this $1100 one from Dell, in addition to the rest of the computer: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displa...

Ben is wrong wrong wrong. Photoshop runs fine on a Windows machine. Apple computers are no more high end than any other PC, they are just overpriced because fanboys like him fall for Jobs crap. Oh and by the way , both Apple and PCs run on Intel processors. Me thinks Ben be a fool.

Google in the web for dual booting Win7 and Mac OSx. There are a few tutorials/guides showing you how to.

Don't do it unless you have enough knowledge and experience in disk partition and such.

Do It At Your OWN Risk.

You can dual boot Windows and OSX on a Mac, but you can't do that on a PC because of restrictions Apple puts on their software.
